Job Description

Job Requirements

This is a senior leadership opportunity for a driven and experienced Engineering Manager to own and grow a high-performing offshore engineering team on a strategically critical customer project. The role carries a dual mandate: you will be the primary leader responsible for the offshore team's day-to-day delivery, culture, and professional growth, while simultaneously serving as an active member of the project's leadership team to shape strategy, influence decisions, and drive long-term account growth.

This position demands a rare combination of strong people leadership, delivery ownership, technical credibility, and executive-level stakeholder management. You will be the bridge between the offshore team and the broader project leadership, ensuring that the team's work is tightly aligned with customer goals and that the offshore function is recognized as a strategic asset — not merely an execution arm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organizational & People Management

Team Building: Build, lead, and manage a 25–35 member offshore engineering organization comprising Team Leads, Software Engineers, Automation Specialists, and QA Engineers.

Structure & Planning: Define the organizational structure, roles, hiring plans, and onboarding processes to build a robust and scalable team aligned to project goals.

Performance Management: Own all managerial activities including goal setting, resource allocation, performance reviews, career development planning, and succession planning.

Training & Development: Establish structured training programs to continuously upskill the team in domain-specific technologies, project methodologies, and engineering best practices.

  • Program & Delivery Management

End-to-End Ownership: Own the complete delivery of the offshore team's contributions to the customer project across multiple development cycles, from planning through execution.

Strategic Planning: Define delivery strategies, milestones, staffing plans, budgets, and risk management frameworks in collaboration with the project leadership team.

Execution Oversight: Oversee all development and validation phases, ensuring timely delivery of milestones while maintaining quality, compliance, and cost objectives.

Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary operational interface between the offshore team and onshore counterparts, managing escalations and providing transparent reporting to project leadership.

  • Technical Strategy & Governance

Technical Direction: Define the long-term technical roadmap for the offshore team, aligned with the overall product strategy, technology evolution, and customer requirements.

Architectural Oversight: Approve solution architectures, automation strategies, tooling investments, and infrastructure decisions to ensure they are scalable and maintainable.

Quality & Compliance: Review code quality metrics, defect trends, performance data, and compliance readiness at a leadership level, ensuring the team maintains the highest engineering standards.

Governance: Provide technical direction through Team Leads and Senior Engineers, with focus on governance, mentorship, and strategic oversight rather than routine hands-on execution.

  • Cross-Functional & Project Leadership

Leadership Participation: Serve as a core member of the project leadership team, representing the offshore organization in executive meetings, program steering committees, and customer-facing forums.

Influence & Alignment: Influence product design and architectural decisions based on technical feasibility, risk assessments, and quality insights from the offshore team.

Global Collaboration: Drive seamless collaboration between the offshore team, onshore engineering, Product Management, Quality, and the customer's technical stakeholders across geographies and time zones.

  • Business & Strategic Growth Contributions

Strategic Planning: Support long-term organizational planning, headcount forecasting, and capacity expansion strategies for the offshore team.

Account Growth: Identify and contribute to opportunities to grow the scope and strategic value of the offshore team's contribution to the customer account.

Mentorship: Mentor mid-level managers and team leads to build a sustainable leadership pipeline within the offshore organization.

Work Experience

Qualifications & Experience

✔. Required Qualifications

Total Experience: 15+ years in software engineering, with at least 4–5 years in a people management or engineering leadership role.

Offshore Team Leadership: Demonstrated experience in building, scaling, and managing offshore or distributed engineering teams of 20+ members.

Customer-Facing Delivery: Proven track record of delivering complex engineering projects in a client-facing or managed services environment.

Technical Depth: Strong foundational knowledge of software architecture, system design, and modern engineering practices (Agile, CI/CD, Cloud, Microservices).

Stakeholder Management: Exceptional ability to manage relationships with senior stakeholders, including customers, executives, and cross-functional partners.

Communication: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

✦. Preferred Qualifications

Domain Experience: Prior exposure to domains such as embedded systems, IoT, wearable technology, or hardware-software integration is a strong advantage.

Global Delivery Model: Experience working in a global delivery model with structured onshore-offshore collaboration frameworks.
