The Financial Analyst supports the University’s annual budgeting process and provides analytical and project support within the Office of Budget and Planning. The role works closely with division and departmental budget managers across the University to monitor labor, operating, and capital budgets and to produce clear, accurate reporting and analysis that supports planning and decision-making.

In addition to strong budgeting fundamentals, this role will help advance the department’s reporting and process capabilities by identifying opportunities to enhance tools, workflows, and reporting. This includes developing dashboards and analytics solutions (e.g., Power BI dashboards and Insights Analytics reports) and creating documentation that enables stakeholders to effectively leverage data for informed decision-making.

This role offers the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule, with the possibility of working up to two days per week remotely following the initial familiarization period. The successful candidate must be able to attend regularly scheduled on-campus meetings as needed.

Responsibilities

Budget Planning & University Support

  • Support the planning and coordination of the University’s annual budget process.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for departmental users of the budget system, providing guidance and technical assistance on budget preparation, analysis, and review.
  • Review and analyze departmental budget submissions and support development of the University’s annual budget.
  • Review budget changes in the financial system to confirm budget availability prior to approval.
  • Ensure departmental compliance with University policies and procedures related to budget development and adjustments.

Reporting, Analysis & Decision Support

  • Prepare and contribute to budget analyses and routine or ad hoc reports used for internal control and decision-making.
  • Prepare monthly budget reports for each University division.
  • Research expenditures, analyze trends, and recommend solutions to support effective expenditure control.
  • Provide actionable, data-informed recommendations to leadership based on analysis and reporting outputs.

Technology, Analytics Enablement & Process Improvement

  • Lead or support projects and initiatives to improve budgeting processes and tools, including improving the quality, consistency, and usability of outputs for stakeholders.
  • Develop and manage financial dashboards/analytics for the Office of Budget and Planning, including Power BI dashboards and Insights Analytics reports, as applicable.
  • Assist departments in interpreting budget information and resolving data or system errors.
  • Develop and maintain budget training materials and standard operating procedures.
  • Support budget-related onboarding for new senior administrators.

Other

  • Perform other duties as assigned, including position management, cost analysis, and special projects.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, accounting, finance or related analytical field with at least three to five years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of budgetary procedures and practices.
  • Experience with an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheets, database, word processing, presentation graphics, dashboards. and other analytical applications.
  • Capacity for working with large, diverse sets of numerical data and presenting statistical and other data to others.
  • Experience analyzing historical trends in operations from detailed records.
  • Sound professional judgment; ability to carry out projects assigned by supervisor; ability to work independently.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills, with ability to use them in a fast-paced, highly productive environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building or maintaining dashboards/analytics, including Power BI dashboards and Insights Analytics reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop, and document opportunities for process optimization and data-driven decision-making within a finance/budget setting.
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally to gather requirements and translate stakeholder needs into useful reporting and analytic outputs.
