Position Summary:
The Director of Core Infrastructure is a strategic technology leader responsible for designing, implementing, and managing foundational infrastructure services across a hybrid cloud environment. This role oversees core Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Database as a Service (DBaaS) offering scalability, security, reliability, and cost efficiency. This position will support enterprise initiatives, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accountable for project delivery and day-to-day operational activities across IaaS, PaaS, and DBaaS services. This includes direct management of Core Infrastructure’s GCC teammates with matrixed accountability to the Chief Technology Office
- Contribute and support the vision and roadmap for core infrastructure services across hybrid environments by aligning infrastructure strategy with Hartford technology standards, industry best practices, and overall business objectives
- Champion automation and standardization to support The Hartford’s hybrid cloud vision to deliver highly reliable and scalable infrastructure patterns to IT teams
- Achieve top quartile service targets by managing the lifecycle of each service through measurable SLA’s and OKR’s.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and industry best practices by supporting internal and external audits and proactively managing residual risk across the environment
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 10+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering and operations, with at least 5 years in leadership roles.
- Expertise in:
- IaaS: Server, Mainframe, Network, Storage, and Backup technologies
- PaaS: Container Platforms (Kubernetes), Application and Web Hosting, and Enterprise Automation (Ansible, Terraform)
- DBaaS: Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, managed database services
- Hybrid Cloud: Knowledge of on-prem and cloud platforms (AWS and GCP) and modern architectures
- Strong knowledge of ITIL processes in a large-scale environment with the ability to support Incident, Problem, and Change Management discipline
- Working knowledge of a DevOps Culture, automation engines, and modern infrastructure deployments through code (IaC)
- Familiarity with observability tools (Dynatrace and Splunk)
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
