Senior Systems Engineer

The Position

The Senior Systems Engineer will be part of a remote team responsible for building and maintaining client IT infrastructure as we move from private data centers to the hybrid cloud. The workload will consist of project work as well as daily operational tasks. The engineer will report to the Agile Delivery Manager (ADM) and work in two-week sprints related to multiple initiatives. The position is home-based and reports to the Hyderabad, India office on occasion. Working the late shift is expected, with on-call and infrequent off-shift work as needed. The position is contract to hire.

Job Responsibilities

• Deploy, configure, and optimize Veeam Backup & Replication for VMware, AHV, Azure, SQL, Microsoft 365, and AKS workloads.
• Lead migration of Rubrik and Azure Backup workloads to Veeam, ensuring secure, validated, and well-documented transitions.
• Manage NetApp storage systems (on-prem and Azure CVO), overseeing provisioning, lifecycle management, and performance optimization.
• Implement immutability and ransomware protection using Azure Blob tiers (Hot, Cool, Archive) and AWS S3 object lock.
• Build, and manage enterprise infrastructure across Azure, AWS, and on-premises data centers.
• Automate deployment and operational workflows with PowerShell, Python, or Ansible, improving efficiency and reliability.
• Integrate backup and recovery workflows across Cloud, Database, and Compute platforms for seamless data protection.
• Manage and test disaster recovery (DR) environments, ensuring readiness and compliance with RPO/RTO objectives.
• Monitor system health, capacity, and performance while driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.
• Develop and maintain procedures and documentation, coordinate with vendors, and support production operations through On-Call participation.
• Provide technical leadership in backup modernization, automation, and DR strategy, aligning with enterprise goals.
  
  

Required Skills/Experience

• 8+ years of experience in enterprise backup, recovery, and storage environments across cloud and on-prem platforms.
• Deep expertise in Veeam Backup & Replication and Rubrik, including migrations from Rubrik and Azure Backup to Veeam.
• Strong knowledge of Azure backup architecture, Blob Storage tiers, immutability, and cross-region replication.
• Hands-on with Veeam for Azure workloads, SQL, Microsoft 365, and AKS clusters.
• Experience managing NetApp storage (FAS, AFF, CVO) and integrating it with Veeam.
• Skilled in automation and scripting using PowerShell, Python, or Ansible.
• Solid understanding of ransomware protection & retention management.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and cross-team collaboration skills.
  
  

Desired Skills/Experience

• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Terraform, CI/CD, and DevOps practice for automated infrastructure or backup provisioning.
• Experience with virtualization and compute platforms such as VMware ESXi, Nutanix AHV, Cisco UCS, HPE ProLiant, and Dell PowerEdge.
• Understanding of hyperconverged infrastructure and Kubernetes platforms (AKS, EKS, OpenShift).
• Understanding of network and security technologies, including Citrix NetScaler ADC/Gateway and SAN environments (EMC XtremIO, IBM Storwize, Brocade, MDS).
• Working knowledge of Windows Server, Linux/UNIX, and legacy enterprise platforms (IBM pSeries/iSeries).
  
  

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related experience.
• Veeam, NetApp, Azure, AWS certifications a plus.
