Job Description

Job Roles & Responsibilities – Level


Material Ledger (ML) – Actual Costing


  • Support design, configuration, and activation of Material Ledger with Actual Costing in S/4HANA.
  • Define and validate:
  • ML types, valuation areas, and currencies
  • Price determination (Periodic Unit Price – PUP)
  • Actual costing run (CKMLCP)
  • Analyze and resolve price differences:
  • Purchase price variance
  • Production variances
  • Exchange rate differences
  • Ensure accurate single and multi-level price determination.
  • Support month-end ML close:
  • Revaluation of consumption
  • WIP, inventory, and COGS adjustments
  • Collaborate with Finance for FI integration and reconciliation.


Product Costing (CO-PC)


  • Support Product Cost by Order and Product Cost by Period scenarios relevant to automotive manufacturing.
  • Configure and validate:
  • Cost component structures
  • Costing variants (standard, planned, actual)
  • Overhead costing sheets
  • Support standard cost estimation (CK11N/CK40N equivalent in S/4HANA).
  • Ensure accurate costing for:
  • In-house manufactured parts
  • Subcontracting and external processing
  • Phantom assemblies and configurable materials
  • Support cost roll-ups across multi-level BOMs and routings.


Automotive Industry-Specific Responsibilities


  • Handle high-volume manufacturing and complex BOM structures.
  • Support costing for:
  • Variant configuration
  • Engineering change management
  • Frequent design and price changes
  • Manage cost transparency across:
  • Raw materials
  • Semi-finished and finished goods
  • Support make vs buy analysis and margin analysis for OEM and Tier-1/Tier-2 suppliers.


Integration & Cross-Functional Coordination


  • Ensure seamless integration with:
  • MM – Procurement, valuation, GR/IR
  • PP – BOM, routing, production orders
  • FI – G/L, inventory valuation, closing
  • CO – Cost Centers, internal orders, profitability
  • Work closely with:
  • Manufacturing
  • Supply Chain
  • Finance & Controlling
  • IT and SAP Basis teams


Month-End Close & Financial Compliance


  • Support period-end closing activities for:
  • Product costing
  • Material Ledger
  • Inventory valuation
  • Ensure compliance with:
  • Ind AS / IFRS
  • Internal costing and audit requirements
  • Support audit queries related to inventory valuation and costing


Data Validation, Testing & Cutover Support


  • Support unit testing, integration testing, and UAT.
  • Validate costing results against legacy systems.
  • Support data migration and cutover activities:
  • Standard cost migration
  • Inventory balances
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies proactively.


Reporting & Analytics :


  • Support standard and custom reports:
  • Cost component split
  • Actual vs standard cost analysis
  • Inventory valuation reports
  • Collaborate on Fiori apps and S/4HANA analytics for costing insights.
  • Provide data for management reporting and decision-making.


Documentation & Knowledge Transfer


  • Prepare and maintain:
  • Business process documents (BP)
  • Configuration documents
  • SOPs and user manuals
  • Conduct end-user training and handholding post go-live.
  • Support Hypercare and transition to AMS.
  • Essential & Desirable Education/Qualifications/ Work experience/technical skills i.e. what are the 'must haves' for this role


Functional Knowledge/Skills (Must Have)


  • 5 to 7 years of experience of supporting a large manufacturing organisation on Product Costing related processes in SAP
  • 5 to 7 years of experience of supporting a large manufacturing organisation on Product Costing related processes in SAP
  • Hands-on experience in executing Material Ledger related period-end closing steps and issue resolutions.
  • Good understanding of Product Costing integration with other modules like PP, MM and SD
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing accounting and cost flows
  • Hands-on experience with actual costing & month-end close

  • Strong ability to understand business processes and translate them into functional S4 HANA solutions

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, work closely with business stakeholders, and provide both technical and functional guidance to implement best practices and improve system functionality, performance, and reporting capabilities.
  • Previous experience working with global or multinational teams
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Educational Qualification : CA/ICWA (Preferred)


Technical Skill required


  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies
  • Relevant SAP certifications in Controlling module preferred
  • Language Proficiency Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise between business users and technical teams.
  • Experience Required 5-7 years of hands-on experience in SAP S/4HANA consulting, with a strong focus on Product Costing integration



Note-The role requires strong managerial and administrative capabilities, including the ability to plan, organize, and oversee day-to-day operations. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating resources, ensuring compliance with organizational policies, monitoring performance metrics, and fostering effective communication across teams. This position involves decision-making, problem-solving, and guiding staff to achieve departmental and organizational objectives, while maintaining efficiency, accountability, and a culture of continuous improvement.
