Senior Manager / Manager – Materials Management (Casting)

Location: Lucknow
Business Unit: Industrial

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager / Manager – Materials Management to lead procurement, inventory control, stores, and warehousing operations for the Industrial Castings Business Unit at Lucknow.

This role is responsible for ensuring timely procurement of direct materials, indirect materials, spares, capital goods, and engineering equipment while optimizing cost, maintaining inventory efficiency, and ensuring compliance with applicable standards.

The incumbent will work closely with production, maintenance, logistics, and EXIM teams to forecast demand, manage suppliers, and ensure uninterrupted manufacturing operations.

Primary Accountabilities:

1. Procurement & Planning

  • Ensure timely procurement of raw materials as per production plans and customer specifications.
  • Forecast material requirements and run MRP in coordination with melting and pouring teams.
  • Maintain optimal safety stock levels while minimizing carrying costs.
  • Ensure timely procurement of engineering equipment, capital goods, process utilities, and packing materials.

2. Inventory & Warehouse Management

  • Monitor and control inventory to prevent stockouts and excess stock.
  • Oversee receiving, storage, and issuance of materials with accurate accounting.
  • Ensure materials storage complies with company and regulatory guidelines.

3. Supplier & Contract Management

  • Identify and develop suppliers in line with approved vendor lists.
  • Negotiate contracts and manage vendor performance.
  • Implement supply risk management practices.
  • Review annual contracts and AMCs for machinery and utilities.

4. Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure raw materials meet ASTM, IS, BS, and customer specifications.
  • Maintain documentation aligned with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and company procurement guidelines.
  • Basic oversight of EXIM procedures for purchase orders.

5. Budgeting & MIS

  • Monitor procurement budgets and prepare MIS reports.
  • Provide procurement inputs for project feasibility and cost-benefit analysis.
  • Support vendor development and cost optimization initiatives.

6. Team Leadership

  • Lead and supervise materials management and stores teams.
  • Set KRAs and performance targets.
  • Drive training, coaching, and capability development.

Required Experience:

  • 10–18 years of experience in materials management / procurement.
  • Strong experience in casting manufacturing companies or foundries.
  • Deep knowledge of raw material procurement for casting operations.
  • Hands-on exposure to capital purchases and engineering equipment sourcing.
  • Experience in forecasting, budgeting, and ERP-based material planning.

Technical & Functional Expertise:

  • Strong understanding of supply chain, procurement, and inventory management systems.
  • Proficiency in ERP modules (MRP essential).
  • Good understanding of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 documentation requirements.
  • Basic knowledge of EXIM procedures.
  • Strong financial acumen and negotiation capability.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant business software.

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical / metallurgical / production / industrial engineering – Mandatory
  • MBA / PGDM in Supply Chain Management / Operations / Materials Management – Preferred

  • 9–15 years of experience in casting manufacturing / foundry environment.
  • Strong raw material and capital procurement expertise.
  • Proven leadership capability in managing stores and materials teams.
