What You’ll Be Doing (Position Summary):
The QE Manager is accountable for leading and managing quality engineering and software testing activities across multiple projects, programs, or workstreams This role ensures the delivery of high-quality solutions by developing and executing comprehensive test strategies, plans, and automation scripts, while driving continuous improvement in QA/QE processes and standards The incumbent plays a key role in technical evaluation, solution design feedback, and implementation of emerging automation and AI-based testing approaches to expedite delivery, improve quality, and reduce costs.
How You’ll Succeed (Responsibilities):
Operational Excellence:
- Develop, publish, manage, and execute test strategies, test plans, test cases, traceability matrices, automation scripts, status reports, defect logs, and exit reports.
- Identify and obtain required test data and test environments to support testing activities.
- Develop, publish, and execute testing estimates and manage financials related to testing.
- Work closely with Onsite QA Manager for daily activities and delivery.
Project & Team Leadership:
- Manage and lead the testing activities for a workstream, program, or multiple projects/initiatives.
- Lead a team of test analysts, including capacity management, performance management, productivity, quality assurance, and compliance with project requirements.
- Ensure adherence to QA/QE standards and drive the implementation of new standards.
- Own test strategies, test plans, and release sign-off.
- Risk assessment and release readiness decisions.
Continuous Improvement:
- Recognize and identify areas for improvement in policies, processes, procedures, and tools/methodologies; implement continuous improvements.
- Track and report QA/QE metrics and KPIs such as velocity and defect slippage.
- Identify, manage, and remediate noncompliance items and deviations.
Technical Evaluation & Quality Engineering:
- Provide input, feedback, and challenge technical designs, assess impacts to testing based on technical details, and develop QA automation solutions.
- Identify and implement automation, AI, or emerging solutions to expedite testing, improve quality, and reduce costs.
Quality Assurance:
- Apply extensive knowledge of software quality assurance activities, tasks, tools, and techniques to evaluate new or enhanced systems and software tools for adherence to functionality and quality requirements.
Quality Management & Problem Solving:
- Utilize quality management methods, tools, and techniques to create and support an environment that meets organizational needs.
- Apply problem-solving approaches, tools, and techniques to recognize, anticipate, and resolve organizational, operational, or process problems.
Performance testing:
- Define performance testing strategy aligned with business SLAs and peak usage
- Translate business expectations into measurable KPIs (latency, TPS, throughput, error rate)
- Identify root causes (code inefficiencies, thread contention, memory leaks, DB locks, GC issues)
People Management:
- Set appropriate context when assigning work to ensure that individuals’ roles support the achievement of the business unit’s priorities and CIBC’s overall goals.
- Build team and individual capabilities by providing development opportunities such as job shadowing, special projects, and training.
- Manage performance by providing fair and accurate formal and informal feedback, identifying and removing obstacles to performance, and explaining how performance expectations align with business priorities.
- Create a positive work environment and act as an effective role model by championing CIBC’s mission, vision, and values.
- Ensure compliance with policies, standards, guidelines, and controls by applying the policies and controls fairly and consistently so employees understand what to expect.
- Hire the right people in the right jobs to align individual capabilities with job requirements and business unit goals.
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
- Collaborates with peers, project managers, developers, and business analysts both inside and outside the work unit to identify, discuss, and resolve issues related to testing and quality engineering.
- Interacts regularly with development teams, product owners, and external vendors to establish and monitor service level agreements, define service requirements, and ensure the delivery of quality solutions.
- Works closely with stakeholders to communicate status, metrics, and remediation plans for noncompliance and deviations

JOB DIMENSIONS
- Responsible for managing testing activities across multiple projects, programs, or workstreams within the organization
- Directly manages a team of test analysts, overseeing their capacity, performance, and development
- Accountable for the delivery of testing outcomes impacting the quality and timeliness of project deliverables
- Provides advisory and support services for the adoption of automation and AI-based testing solutions across the unit
Experience: 10+ years of experience.
Who You Are (Skills / Qualifications):
- Banking applications middle-tier/shared-platforms and upstream/downstream integrations (core banking systems, client messaging, targeted customer marketing, product offering systems), API/Webservices REST and SOAP, DB SQL/non-SQL, and Batch testing automation.
- 10+ years of experience in software quality engineering, quality assurance, and test management 2-3 yrs of management experience.
- Experience in evaluating systems, software packages, and tools for functionality and quality requirements.
- Strong understanding of quality management methods, tools, and techniques.
- Proficient with Test and Variance Management tools (ALM, JIRA, Confluence, and/or other similar tools) and Waterfall, or Agile methodology / processes.
- Proficient in testing and troubleshooting Rest API, SOAP webservices, batches, dB, integrations via gateway/proxy/feed-hubs/mq etc.
- Strong understanding of API protocols and standards, be able to validate request and response structures, and demonstrate experience integrating and automating API-driven workflows in complex environments
- Understanding of the core banking systems and cross-platform integrations via gateway/proxy/etc
- Automation scripting Language - Python, Java, Python.
- Database testing -SQL knowledge, Data Migration testing.
- Unix/Batch testing skills: running and verification of the batch jobs, reports, or data loads.
Must Have Skills:
- Proficient with RestAPI, SOAP webservices interfaces testing
- Expertise in API Testing tools for automation – Para soft SOA Test Writing and executing automation test cases, custom functions, building frameworks and repositories for API testing
- Database testing - SQL knowledge, Data Migration testing
- UNIX and Feed hub testing skills: running and verification of the file transfers, batch jobs, reports, or data loads
- Version control systems for regression packages code management, eg Git.
- Proficient with ALM, Jira, Confluence, and/or other similar Agile, development, and QA tools
- Sound knowledge of XML, WSDL, JSON, Swagger.
Good to have Skills:
- Experience with programming languages such as Java, Python with a strong preference using these languages to automate RestAPI, SOAP web services testing.
- Network and Security Protocols, MQ, Solace.
- db. SQL: Oracle, Azure, dB non-SQL: Mongo.
- API GRPC.
- SMS messaging testing tool (Perfecto) and/or other mobile messaging validation testing tools.
- MQ Tools – MQ Visual Edit or similar.
- Parasoft, Postman, Swagger/ Open API and/or other API testing tools.
- Version Control – Git/Github or similar.
- ALM, Jira, Confluence, Jenkins, and/or other Agile, development, and QA tools.
- DB tools: SQL Developer / SQL Server Management Studio, dB Visualizer, TOAD, etc.).
- XML tool – XML Spy or similar.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
