Professor of Practice in Art (Glass and 3D Tech)
Start Date: August 16, 2026
The Department of Art at Hartwick College invites applications for a full-time (75% teaching/25% tech work), two-year renewable appointment at the rank of Professor of Practice in Art starting in August 2026, pending final administrative approval. We seek candidates with expertise in glass blowing and other hot and cold glass techniques, with preference given to those with expertise in ceramics, metalshop, and/or woodshop. Minimum qualifications include a Master of Fine Arts degree (or equivalent) by the time of the appointment.
Teaching load will average 12 semester credit hours or their equivalent per academic year in Glass, and 3 credits of teaching within Hartwick’s FlightPath First-Year General Education Program. The successful candidate must be committed to excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching. Attendance at department meetings will be expected; participation in Admissions events would be desirable.
This Position Also Includes The Following Responsibilities
3D Studio Technician
Order glass, ceramics, metal shop and woodshop supplies
Maintain glass blowing, ceramics, metal shop, and woodshop studios and equipment repair
Inventory glassblowing, ceramics, metal shop, and woodshop equipment
Act as a liaison to Facilities
Oversee student workers and supervise operations in the glass, ceramics, metal shop, and woodshop areas
Oversee summer clean-upHazardous Materials Technician
Keep records of all chemicals and related substances used in the Art & Art History Department
Maintain safe storage of all hazardous materials
Keep current with OSHA mandates and communicate those needs to Art Faculty
Monitor, on a continual basis, departmental studios for hazardous conditions, and alert faculty and students to hazardous conditions and practices
Manage hazardous waste for the Art & Art History Department: keep current with hazardous waste regulations, minimize hazardous waste stream, and devise ways to lower disposal costs
Implement departmental protocols for hazardous waste disposal and laboratory safety; assist faculty and students in matters of understanding and implementing protocols
Keep abreast of green practices and suggest to the department how to reduce waste and usage of problematic chemicals where possible The Art and Art History Department is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.
