Position Details

Position Summary

The Principal of Student Services provides district‑level leadership and coordination for all student support systems, with a primary focus on special education, Student Assistance Teams (SAT), and multi‑disciplinary team processes. This role ensures high‑quality instructional and compliance practices, supports special education teachers through evaluation and coaching, and collaborates closely with the Special Education Supervisor to maintain consistent, student‑centered services across all buildings. The Principal of Student Services reports directly to the Superintendent and is a collaborative partner with building administration.

Qualifications

  • Valid Michigan Administrator Certification (or eligibility).
  • Must have prior experience as a special education teacher or building principal.
  • MAISA/MAASE training or equivalent preparation in special education leadership required.
  • Minimum of five years of administrative experience and a passion for diverse learners
  • Demonstrated knowledge of IDEA, MARSE, MTSS, and effective intervention practices.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to lead with empathy and a commitment to equitable student outcomes.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative leadership for district special education programs, services, and staff. 2
  • Ensure compliance with IDEA, MARSE, and district policies.
  • Monitor caseloads, service delivery, and program effectiveness.
  • Act as primary district representative on IEP team meetings.
  • Support the development and implementation of inclusive practices across all schools.
  • Oversee the district’s Student Assistance Teams, ensuring consistent processes for intervention, data review, and student support.
  • Guide principals and staff in implementing MTSS‑aligned supports.
  • Conduct evaluations of special education teachers and assigned support staff in accordance with district procedures.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and professional development to strengthen instructional practices and compliance.
  • Collaborate with building principals to ensure coordinated support for special education staff.
  • Work in partnership with the Special Education Supervisor to align programming, staffing, and compliance expectations.
  • Coordinate communication, problem‑solving, and decision‑making related to student services.
  • Support the development of district procedures, forms, and guidance documents and provide guidance to staff on procedural requirements and best practices.
  • Oversee and attend IEP, REED, MDR, and other required meetings as needed.
  • Serve as a member of the district leadership team, contributing to strategic planning and continuous improvement.
  • Support family engagement and serve as a liaison between the district and community agencies.

Work Year & Compensation

Full‑time, 210 day administrative position.
