Astr Defence is a deep-tech defence startup developing indigenous small arms, launchers, fire-control systems, thermal imaging solutions, and counter-UAV technologies for the Indian Armed Forces.

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer (2–8 years) to work on mission-critical, rugged hardware built to MIL & Indian defence standards.

🔧 Role Highlights:

• End-to-end mechanical design of small arms & fire-control units
• Precision rugged housing design (shock, vibration, thermal, recoil loads)
• Design and optimize components specifically for precision machining processes (VMC, CNC turning, grinding, boring, honing)
• Define machining-friendly tolerances and fits aligned with process capabilities (micron-level where required)
• Validate designs before release to ensure first-time-right manufacturing
• Drive improvements in surface finish, dimensional accuracy, and repeatability.
• Structural & thermal analysis (FEA)
• Prototyping, testing & design iteration
• Exposure to advanced machining challenges and real-world constraints
• Defence compliance (MIL-STD / JSS / GSQR)
• Cross-functional work with AI/ML, electronics & optics teams

🎯 Ideal Candidate:

• Strong in machine design, GD&T, tolerances
• Proficient in SolidWorks / Fusion 360.
• Experience in precision machining & rugged products
• Strong exposure to precision machining: VMC, CNC turning, grinding, jig boring, honing
• Good understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, fits, and surface finish (Ra values)
• Defence/aerospace background preferred
• Passion for indigenous defence technology

• Rural plant location (bus facility provided from Hubli city to factory)
• Timings – 9am to 6.30pm (Monday to Saturday) Sunday holiday.
