Role Overview
We are hiring for one of our clients seeking a skilled Lead Materials Engineer to support engineering activities within the aero engines and gearbox domain.
In this role, you will work within a structured engineering support environment responsible for materials research, testing, analysis, and characterization. The position also involves verification and validation of new materials, defining technical specifications for special treatments, and conducting failure analysis of damaged or non-conforming components.
You will collaborate closely with design, quality, manufacturing, and supply chain teams, while also interacting directly with suppliers to ensure reliable materials processes and compliance with engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support material qualification initiatives for turbomachinery hardware supplied by new vendors.
- Prepare and present technical analysis, reports, and engineering data to internal and external stakeholders.
- Participate in industry and internal teams to improve the application of special processes used in turbomachinery components.
- Provide technical guidance and strategic support to supply chain teams during reviews and pre-production meetings.
- Define technical specifications and material requirements for engineering projects.
- Ensure accurate documentation of technical data and project information in compliance with engineering standards and procedures.
- Conduct failure investigations and root cause analysis for damaged or non-conforming components.
- Evaluate non-conformance issues, review technical requirements, and recommend appropriate disposition procedures.
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments including design, manufacturing, quality, and procurement.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- 8+ years of experience as a Materials Engineer within the aerospace or gas turbine industry.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or Metallurgy.
- Experience with primary processing methods including powder metallurgy, isothermal forging, and heat treatment of turbomachinery materials.
- Strong knowledge of metallurgy, aerospace manufacturing processes, and inspection techniques such as primary melting, forging, and heat treatment.
- Understanding of aerospace supply chain operations.
- Familiarity with additive manufacturing technologies (preferred).
- Broad knowledge of metallic, ceramic, composite, and polymeric materials and experience with characterization testing.
- Experience working with laboratory procedures and equipment.
- Exposure to Finite Element Analysis tools such as ANSYS is advantageous.
- Knowledge of coating and surface treatment processes is beneficial.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
- Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in dynamic and fast-paced engineering environments.
