Role Overview

The Mainframe RACF Security Specialist is responsible for managing and administering enterprise-level mainframe security environments. This role requires deep expertise in z/OS security architecture, RACF profile administration, subsystem security integration, and security monitoring. The candidate will ensure secure, compliant, and optimized mainframe environments supporting critical business applications.

Key Responsibilities

Administer and manage IBM z/OS environments including TSO/ISPF and JCL security configurations.

Implement and maintain security policies using RACF (Resource Access Control Facility).

Create, modify, and audit user IDs, groups, and resource profiles in RACF.

Secure and manage access controls for subsystems such as IBM Db2, CICS, and IMS.

Monitor and analyze security events using SMF records.

Perform security compliance checks, audits, and remediation activities.

Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and audit teams to ensure secure system operations.

Support incident response and root cause analysis for security-related events.

Required Skills & Experience

5+ years of hands-on experience in Mainframe environments with strong exposure to z/OS, TSO/ISPF, and JCL.

Expert-level knowledge of RACF commands, profile management, and access control implementation.

Proven experience securing DB2, CICS, and IMS subsystems.

Strong understanding of SMF logs and security event monitoring.

Experience with security administration tools such as IBM zSecure (Admin, Audit, Alert) or Vanguard Integrity Professionals solutions.

Ability to analyze security risks and implement mitigation strategies.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in regulatory compliance and audit support.

Knowledge of enterprise security frameworks and governance standards.

Strong documentation and communication skills.

Ability to mentor junior team members and provide technical leadership.
