Role Description The GM – Maintenance is a full-time, on-site role based in Chennai, responsible for overseeing the maintenance operations of SBLT’s vehicle fleet and related assets. This role involves planning and executing preventive and corrective maintenance schedules, ensuring optimal vehicle availability, reliability, and safety. The GM – Maintenance will manage maintenance teams and external vendors, control repair costs, monitor spare parts inventory, and ensure compliance with regulatory and manufacturer standards. The position includes analyzing breakdown trends, implementing process improvements, coordinating with operations for minimal service disruption, and maintaining accurate maintenance records and reports. The role also requires active participation in budgeting, audits, and strategic initiatives to enhance fleet performance and support SBLT’s growth.
Qualifications
  • Candidates should possess strong expertise in fleet and vehicle maintenance management, including preventive and corrective maintenance planning, workshop supervision, and vendor coordination.
  • Candidates should possess skills in maintenance budgeting, cost control, inventory management for spare parts, and data-driven performance analysis.
  • Candidates should possess knowledge of safety, regulatory compliance, and quality standards related to transport operations, including familiarity with OEM guidelines and statutory requirements.
  • Candidates should possess leadership and people management skills, with experience in guiding technical teams, resolving operational issues, and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Candidates should possess effective communication, documentation, and reporting abilities, along with proficiency in using maintenance or fleet management software and basic office tools.
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Automobile Engineering or a related field is preferred; significant relevant experience in large fleet or transport operations is highly beneficial.
  • Experience in bus or commercial vehicle maintenance within the travel, logistics, or transportation industry, and exposure to modern diagnostic tools and technologies, will be an advantage.
