Job Description

The Opportunity

Ginesys One is India’s leading omniretail technology suite, powering 1200+ brands including Manyavar, V-Mart, and Skechers. Our POS product vertical — built on the Browntape platform — is the backbone of how our customers manage orders across 25+ marketplace integrations, warehouse operations, and fulfilment workflows.

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to build and lead the cloud POS engineering team in Gurgaon. This is not a remote oversight role. You will be physically present, hands-on, and fully accountable for engineering delivery across the POS and Integration products.

You will operate in the same model as our ERP Engineering Head — leading a small, AI-native, pod-based team with full ownership of product delivery, code quality, and production stability. You report directly to the Head of Engineering at the Ginesys One level.

What You Own

  • Product Delivery — POS & Integrations
  • End-to-end engineering delivery for the Browntape OMS platform, WMS module, and all marketplace integrations (Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Shopify, WooCommerce, and 20+ others).
  • Own the product engineering roadmap execution in partnership with the Product team. Product defines what; you own how and when.
  • Ensure every feature is delivered at AI-native speed — using AI tools for code generation, testing, and reviews as a default engineering practice, not an experiment.
  • Own production stability for all OMS products. When things break, your team fixes them. No escalation to another team.
  • Pod-Based Team Structure
  • Build and manage 2–3 self-sustained pods (8–12 engineers total), each with a Pod Lead, developers, and QA.
  • A pod is a virtual, flat construct. Pod Leads are player-coaches who code 50%+ of the time and lead sprint execution. You define pod composition and can restructure quarterly based on delivery needs.
  • You are the Engineering Manager — you own people management (hiring, 1:1s, appraisals, career development), delivery accountability across all pods, and cross-pod coordination.
  • QA engineers are assigned to pods but can rotate based on sprint complexity. You own overall QA governance and release quality for the OMS vertical.
  • AI-Native Engineering
  • Drive mandatory adoption of AI development tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) across your team. This is not optional — it is the core of how we build software.
  • Target 3X–5X productivity improvement over traditional development methods. Measure AI-assisted commit percentages, AI-generated test coverage, and time-to-PR.
  • Ensure every developer can evaluate, refine, and ship AI-generated code. Junior developers who cannot independently assess AI output do not belong in an AI-native pod.
  • Your team will be assessed on AI-native engineering practices and individual productivity. This is a measured, accountable transformation — not a suggestion.
  • Platform Modernization
  • Understand the current Browntape tech stack deeply. Assess what needs to stay, what needs refactoring, and what needs to be rebuilt for scale.
  • Drive incremental modernization — not a big-bang rewrite. Deliver features on the existing stack while progressively improving architecture, performance, and maintainability.
  • Work with the central Platform Engineering and Data Platform teams on shared services, integrations, and data pipeline alignment.
  • Ensure the OMS platform is architecturally aligned with the Ginesys One unified platform vision — common services, common data layer, common infrastructure.
  • Gurgaon Engineering Hub
  • Build the OMS engineering function in Gurgaon from the ground up. Hire, onboard, and develop a high-performing local team.
  • Establish Gurgaon as a self-sufficient engineering centre for the OMS vertical — not dependent on other locations for day-to-day delivery.
  • Create a culture of ownership, speed, and technical excellence. Set the standard for what a lean, AI-native engineering team looks like at Ginesys One.

What You Bring

Non-Negotiable

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years managing engineering teams of 8+ people.
  • Hands-on technical depth: You must be able to review architecture, debug production issues, evaluate code quality, and make design calls. If you have stopped coding entirely, this is not the right role.
  • Strong knowledge of the Browntape/OMS tech stack (Python/Django or equivalent) AND openness to modernization. You inherit the current stack but are expected to progressively improve it.
  • Deep understanding of e-commerce order management: marketplace integrations, order lifecycle, inventory sync, fulfilment, returns, and reconciliation.
  • Experience building and restructuring engineering teams. You will build this team in Gurgaon — hiring, assessing talent, setting culture, making tough calls on performance.
  • AI-native engineering fluency. You must personally use AI tools for development and be able to drive mandatory adoption across your team.

Strongly Preferred

  • Experience with marketplace integration platforms (Amazon SP-API, Flipkart, Myntra, Shopify APIs).
  • Experience with warehouse management systems and logistics workflows.
  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures, message queues (Kafka/RabbitMQ), and high-throughput data processing.
  • Experience working in a multi-product engineering organization where platform alignment and shared services matter.
  • Track record of delivering 2X+ productivity improvements through engineering process changes, tooling, or automation.

First 30 Days

  • Complete assessment of the current OMS codebase, architecture, tech debt, and production health.
  • Assess every team member on technical depth, AI fluency, ownership, and output velocity.
  • Define the pod structure — who leads which pod, team composition, and domain ownership.
  • Establish working relationships with Product, Data Platform, Infra, and peer Engineering Managers.

First 90 Days

  • All OMS pods operational with clear ownership and delivery cadence.
  • AI tools (Claude Code, Copilot) adopted by 100% of the team with measurable usage.
  • Gurgaon team is self-sufficient for day-to-day OMS delivery — no dependency on other locations.
  • First sprint delivered at AI-native velocity with measurable productivity improvement.
  • Platform modernization roadmap presented — what stays, what gets refactored, timeline.

First 12 Months

  • 3X–5X productivity improvement demonstrated through AI-native practices.
  • OMS platform architecturally aligned with Ginesys One common architecture.
  • 90%+ bug-free releases with centralized QA governance.
  • Team operating as a lean, high-performing unit — 8–12 engineers delivering what 20+ would traditionally.
  • Marketplace integration platform modernized for faster onboarding of new channels.

Compensation

  • Highly competitive base compensation at top of market for Engineering Manager roles in Indian enterprise SaaS.
  • Significant equity / ESOP participation with meaningful ownership in the company’s growth story.
  • Performance-linked variable pay tied to delivery milestones and team productivity metrics.

The Leader We Are Looking For

You are a builder who leads from the front. You can design a system architecture in the morning, review AI-generated code in the afternoon, and have a tough performance conversation in the evening. You are comfortable making hiring and restructuring decisions. You don’t hide behind process — you own outcomes.

If you are primarily a strategist who delegates all execution, this is not the right role. If you are a pure technologist who struggles to lead people and manage delivery, this is not the right role either. We need someone who does both — with urgency, ownership, and an AI-first mindset.

This is the AI era. We are building a lean, AI-native engineering organization that delivers at 3X–5X the speed of traditional teams. If that excites you, let’s talk.
