Job Description – EHS Specialist
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensuring Project Tiger Contractors’ adherence to EHS requirements as stipulated. Thereby assisting the Site Team with planning, supervision, monitoring and reporting on EHS matters in all phases of the Construction Project
- Monitoring and improving Safe Work Practices of the Project Team with the ability to identify and provide, ‘Technical’ guidance on EHS topics, e.g. High Risks activities and Implementation of effective Control measures, Risk Assessments, Safe Work Method Statements, Permit To Work, Inspections and non-routine EHS related requirements
- Implementing required Incident Prevention measures in collaboration with the RE Site Responsible Manager and/or the local Country RE EHS Resource. Oversee Incident reviews on EHS Incidents by performing root cause analysis and sharing Lessons Learned as applicable
- Co-ordinating with Site Responsible Managers to ensure communication and awareness of EHS concerns through consistent participation in Site works ie. Construction meetings, Site EHS Walks, Inspections etc.
- Evaluating Contractor performance by conducting regular Site inspections, documenting the findings and ensuring implementation of Corrective and Preventative actions in conjunction with the Project Team and supporting the EHS Team with comprehensive reporting and follow-up to identify trends and tendencies
- Extensive Contractor Management experience with special emphasis in Construction activities within the Built environment
- Minimum 8 to 12 years’ experience as an Environmental, Health and Safety Professional on Construction Sites, liaising with as well as managing Contractors
- Comprehensive understanding of local Legal EHS requirements (e.g., OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ANSI, CCOHS)
- EHS support on the Project. This will require a flexible approach as well as the ‘Technical’ supervision of employees
- Be in possession of a recognized Degree/ National Diploma in any branch of Engineering, Technology or Architecture
- Excellent communication skills
- Critical thinking and problem-solving
- Risk analysis for Hazard and Risk management
- Effective time management
