Commerce Faculty member is responsible for delivering comprehensive instruction in business, accounting, finance, and economics. They design engaging curricula, evaluate student performance, and conduct scholarly research. Additionally, they mentor students for corporate careers and contribute to departmental administration.Core ResponsibilitiesInstruction & Course Delivery: Conduct lectures, seminars, and practical laboratory sessions across subjects like accounting, taxation, economics, and business studies.Curriculum Development: Design, update, and implement course syllabi that align with industry standards and university/board regulations.Research & Scholarship: Publish research papers in peer-reviewed (e.g., SCOPUS/WOS) journals, secure research grants, and present findings at academic conferences.Student Assessment: Create and grade assignments, quizzes, and examinations; maintain accurate academic records and provide constructive feedback.Mentorship & Guidance: Act as an academic advisor, guiding students through major projects, internships, and preparation for careers in the banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) sectors.Institutional Service: Participate in departmental meetings, Faculty Development Programs (FDPs), and university committees.Typical Qualifications & RequirementsEducation: A Master’s degree in Commerce (M.Com), Accounting, or Business Administration is the baseline. A Ph.D. or M.Phil is highly preferred and often mandatory for university roles.Certifications: In India, clearing the National Eligibility Test (NET) or State Eligibility Test (SET) is a standard regulatory requirement for college/university assistant professors. School-level teachers may require a B.Ed. degree.Experience: Prior teaching, industry, or research experience is required, scaling up from 1–3 years for entry-level lecturers to 5–10 years for senior or leadership roles.Skills: Strong command of financial reporting, taxation, and corporate law; excellent communication; and proficiency with educational and financial software.
