Job Description

Position Title: Vice President, Research & Development

Reports to: CTO / Chief Technology Officer / CEO

Position Summary

The Vice President, Research & Development is responsible for defining and leading the company’s R&D strategy to drive innovation, product development, and long-term technological competitiveness. This role ensures alignment between research initiatives, product roadmaps, and overall business objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute the company’s R&D strategy and technology roadmap
  • Lead all research, development, and engineering activities across the organization
  • Drive innovation, new product development, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure timely delivery of R&D projects in alignment with product, quality, and cost targets
  • Partner with product management, manufacturing, marketing, and commercial teams
  • Manage R&D budgets, resource allocation, and external research partnerships
  • Establish best practices for R&D governance, project management, and IP protection
  • Oversee intellectual property strategy, including patents and trade secrets
  • Build, lead, and develop high-performing R&D teams and technical leadership
  • Monitor emerging technologies, industry trends, and competitive developments
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or related field; Master’s or PhD preferred
  • 12+ years of experience in R&D or product development, including senior leadership roles
  • Proven track record leading complex R&D programs and product innovation
  • Strong technical depth combined with strategic and commercial acumen
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in [industry-specific field, e.g., software, semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, industrial products]
  • Experience managing global or distributed R&D teams
  • Experience with regulatory-driven development environments, where applicable
