Job Description

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL databases across cloud and on-premise environments
  • Manage database upgrades, patching, and continuous monitoring
  • Design and implement High Availability (HA), replication, and failover strategies
  • Handle backup, restore, Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR), and disaster recovery planning
  • Perform advanced query tuning using EXPLAIN / EXPLAIN ANALYZE
  • Optimize indexes, schemas, partitioning, and materialized views
  • Troubleshoot performance issues including CPU, I/O, locks, and deadlocks
  • Develop and optimize PL/pgSQL functions, procedures, and triggers
  • Collaborate with developers on query optimization and data modeling best practices
  • Implement and manage database security (SSL/TLS, encryption, RLS, RBAC)
  • Conduct security audits and ensure compliance standards
  • Provide L2/L3 production support and incident resolution
  • Continuously monitor and enhance database performance and scalability
Required Skills
  • 7–8 years of hands-on experience as a PostgreSQL DBA
  • Strong expertise in SQL and PL/pgSQL programming
  • Deep understanding of PostgreSQL database internals
  • Proven experience in:
  • Query optimization & performance tuning
  • Indexing (B-Tree, GIN, GiST, BRIN)
  • Partitioning & materialized views
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Concurrency control, vacuum, autovacuum
  • Locking mechanisms and deadlock handling
  • Tools like EXPLAIN ANALYZE, pg_stat_statements
  • Experience with:
  • Database security (SSL/TLS, pgcrypto, RLS, RBAC)
  • Backup, restore, and PITR
  • Strong Linux fundamentals (Ubuntu / RedHat)
  • Scripting knowledge (Bash / Shell)
  • Hands-on experience with tools like pgAdmin, psql
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS RDS, Azure, GCP)
  • Exposure to Docker / Kubernetes
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Liquibase, Flyway)
  • Experience working with high-volume systems (1M+ transactions/day)
  • Knowledge of security compliance standards (SOC 2, GDPR)
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools like Prometheus and Grafana
