Job Description

1. JOB PURPOSE

To lead and supervise all lashing and unlashing activities onboard vessels, under quay cranes and at yard for special jobs ensuring safety, compliance with international standards, and timely execution to support efficient vessel turnaround. The role acts as the link between Vessel Supervisor, lashers, and crane operations to maintain safe and uninterrupted workflows.


2. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Supervise and direct all lashers during vessel operations, ensuring correct and safe application of lashing/unlashing procedures.
  • Coordinate with Vessel Supervisor and quay crane operators to align lashing activities with loading/discharge sequences.
  • Monitor lashing team performance, ensuring adherence to safety protocols (PPE, work under suspended loads, access control).
  • Conduct pre-shift safety briefings for lashers and ensure compliance with HSSE requirements.
  • Inspect lashing gear, twist locks, and other securing tools, reporting any defects or shortages.
  • Ensure safe working practices in high-risk areas, including under-crane and onboard vessel work zones.
  • Escalate incidents, delays, or unsafe conditions immediately to Vessel Supervisor and HSSE team.
  • Maintain discipline and teamwork within the lashing group to achieve planned vessel productivity.
  • Prepare shift reports on lashing performance, manpower utilization, and incidents


3. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • High school diploma (minimum); vocational/technical certification preferred.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in container terminal operations, with at least 2 years in a lashing team leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of vessel lashing/unlashing processes and safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of IMO cargo securing guidelines and port HSSE standards.
  • Supervisory and communication skills to manage multinational lashing teams.
  • Ability to work under pressure in vessel operation environments (24/7).
