Job Description
OUR VALUES IN ACTION
For successful candidates, we are pleased to offer sponsorship, provided you already hold a valid UK NMC PIN as a Registered Nurse.
NHS Borders has been awarded the NHS Scotland Pastoral Care Quality Award, recognising the support and welcome we have provided for internationally educated healthcare professionals.
We are looking for Registered Nurses who are committed to providing the highest level of quality and safe care to a wide range of patients in a busy, fast paced environment. You will work closely with all other members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure we provide the right care to our patient. You will be patient focused and work well under pressure. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential to this role along with being able to work independently and being flexible.
You will play a vital role in supporting the Senior Charge Nurse, Charge Nurse and other registered band 5 Nurses as well as overseeing the work of our Health Care Support Workers.
We plan for the first cohort of recruits to commence on 7 September 2026. You will have a supernumerary orientation for minimum period of 2 weeks, with professional support from a Nurse Preceptor.
Informal enquiries to Philip Grieve, Associate Director of Nursing Acute via email: [email protected]
Hold the Date: In person interviews will be held on the 11th May 2026
Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post will require a different level of criminal records check done than is currently the case. If the post is assessed as a "regulated role", your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. If there is any change to what is currently required, this will be confirmed by either the Hiring Manager or the Recruitment Team. For more details on these changes please visit: Disclosure Scotland Changes.
To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigrations Service.
As part of the pre-employment checks for a preferred candidate, NHS Scotland Boards will check your entitlement to work in the UK. It can be evidenced through a number of routes including specific types of visa (including tier 2 sponsorship) as well as EU settled and pre-settled status. To find out more about these routes of permission, please refer to the GOV.UK website here.
