Software Engineering Manager

Open Rewards is a local commerce platform, starting with a city-wide rewards program. It gives local businesses the scale of a platform that was only possible for big chains, consumers a way to earn and redeem rewards across independent local businesses, and cities the power to boost their local commerce with a level of responsiveness and precision like never before. Within a few years of launch, we have expanded to 50+ communities across the country.

We are funded by notable pre-seed and seed stage investors including the Alchemist Accelerator, Govtech Fund, and Stanford Impact Fund.

About the role:

As we continue to expand the Open Rewards platform, we are seeking an exceptionally organized and technically-minded Engineering Manager to lead the deployment of our core consumer-facing application. This role is crucial for ensuring effective project execution, maintaining organizational excellence, and fostering a high-performing remote engineering team.

This is a role that blends deep technical expertise with real world impact. Your work will not only create a superb product that integrates into consumers’ daily lives, but have a profound impact in their local commerce and how local businesses thrive.

What you will do:

Product Execution

You will be the core driver in taking our product from development to deployment.

• Own the end-to-end execution and timely delivery of the Open Rewards app and associated features.
• Define clear project scopes, set sprint priorities, and ensure consistent, high-quality delivery.
• Establish and maintain rigorous project management standards, focusing on planning, estimation, and throughput improvement.
• Ensure strong follow-through on all requirements, keeping all project phases organized and agilely aligned with Product priorities.

AI-Native Development

You will play an integral role in fundamentally changing how we ship products.

• Work with our in-house AI experts to redesign our development workflow around AI-assisted coding
• Establish standards for effective use of tools like LLM copilots and agent workflows
• Build internal tooling that accelerates development and QA
• Train engineers on AI-first development practices
• Enhance the speed and quality of our releases

New product initiatives

You will lead the execution of exploratory product initiatives

• Work closely with Leadership on the new initiatives
• Own hands-on execution of initial proof of concepts and analysis
• Define and execute the project plan to move concepts into production

What You Bring:

• 7+ years’ experience in technology, with significant experience leading software deployment initiatives.
• Strong technical background and deep understanding of consumer-facing software applications and user experience (UX polish, quick rendering, responsiveness, and reliability)
• Fundamental knowledge of AI concepts, with a willingness to learn and adopt advanced AI tooling
• A proven ability to be organized, methodical, and deliver projects with exceptional follow-through.
• Experience leading and managing remote engineering teams.
• Self-starter: take initiatives and manage entire projects from inception, implementation, measuring results and iteration.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment; enthusiastic and resilient when the process is fluid and creative solutions are the norm.
