Role Description

The Hosting and Identity team is seeking a highly skilled Senior Infrastructure Automation & SRE Engineer with at least 5 years’ experience in enterprise-scale virtualisation, hybrid cloud platforms (with a focus on Azure), identity management, automation, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE). The role involves supporting and enhancing Azure, Windows, Redhat, Solaris, hypervisors, on-premise storage, and identity services. Proficiency with automation tools such as Terraform and PowerShell is essential. You will drive design, implementation, operations, and optimisation of high-availability, secure, and compliant infrastructure within hybrid environments.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & Automation: Architect, deploy, and manage hybrid infrastructure using Terraform, PowerShell, and Python scripting.
Site Reliability Engineering: Apply SRE principles to deliver reliable, scalable, and observable infrastructure across Azure, hypervisor platforms, and on-premise storage solutions.
Hybrid Cloud & Virtualisation Operations: Support the day-to-day operations and automation of Azure environments, hypervisors, and on-premise storage solutions.
Identity & Access Management: Administer and automate directory services and authentication management (including Entra ID), supporting strong security controls.
Monitoring & Incident Response: Build and maintain automated monitoring, ing, and incident response processes to ensure rapid issue resolution and platform stability.
Security & Compliance: Integrate robust security and compliance requirements into infrastructure operations and automation workflows.
Collaboration: Work closely with networking, security, DevOps, and development teams to deliver secure, reliable, and automated solutions.
Mentorship & Continuous Improvement: Coach junior engineers and foster automation and SRE best practices across the Hosting and Identity team.

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum 5 years’ experience in enterprise infrastructure automation and SRE within hybrid cloud and virtualised environments.
Strong expertise in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and automation scripting (PowerShell, Python).
Advanced skills in Azure IaaS and automated management of cloud resources.
Deep understanding of SRE best practices for reliability, resilience, and observability.
Skilled in administration and automation of identity management and authentication systems.
Proven track record of securing automated infrastructure environments and ensuring compliance.
Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
Preferred certifications: Microsoft Azure Administrator/Architect, Terraform Associate, or similar.

Preferred Skills

Experience implementing SRE and automation within a team supporting Azure, hypervisors, on-premise storage, and identity services.
Familiarity with containerisation solutions (Docker, Kubernetes) and Infrastructure as Code methodologies.
Understanding of networking concepts (DNS, DHCP, VPN, Load Balancers) and their automation.
Awareness of ITIL or SRE-aligned operational frameworks.
