Certara is seeking a Scientific Software Engineer to join our engineering team and help advance Certara IQ, our quantitative systems pharmacology (QSP) modeling and simulation platform. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys deep infrastructure work but also wants to write meaningful Python code. You will collaborate closely with our existing DevOps engineer to evolve and maintain the infrastructure behind our platform. Our backend is powered by Python and FastAPI, and we deploy using infrastructure-as-code.

Responsibilities

• Work across both infrastructure and backend engineering, contributing to Terraform-managed cloud infrastructure as well as Python-based tooling and backend components.
• Develop and maintain internal Python services and tools, including our custom job scheduler and other operational systems.
• Enhance and extend our AWS-based infrastructure running on ECS, Aurora Postgres, and related cloud services.
• Create, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines using CircleCI.
• Contribute to observability, monitoring, logging, and tracing systems, including technologies such as Sentry and Elastic.
• Collaborate with the DevOps engineer who leads the domain to ensure reliability, security, and scalability across environments.
• Implement cloud security best practices and contribute to compliance-related engineering tasks.
• Work with engineers across a seven-person team to support smooth development workflows, infrastructure upgrades, and upcoming new platform features.
• Operate within an infrastructure-as-code environment using Terraform to manage nearly all infrastructure components, services, and deployment configurations.
  
  

Qualifications

• Strong experience with AWS
• Strong Python development experience
• Strong experience with Docker
• Strong experience with SQL (Postgres preferred)
• Experience with Terraform or another infrastructure-as-code framework
• Experience running production systems in a cloud environment
