Designation: Safety Officer – Solar EPC
Department: Renewable Energy
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Gujarat
Reporting To: HSE Manager
Role Overview
We are seeking a responsible and experienced Safety Officer to oversee and ensure all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) aspects of solar EPC project(s) at our Gujarat site. The Safety Officer will be responsible for developing and enforcing safety policies, conducting safety audits and inspections, leading incident investigations, promoting safety awareness, and ensuring compliance with statutory and company safety standards across all site activities — including civil, electrical, mechanical, and installation works.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, standards and statutory requirements relevant to project site work.
Review and approve safety plans submitted by contractors/subcontractors before mobilization; ensure all subcontractors comply with safety requirements.
Perform frequent site inspections — inspect equipment, machinery, scaffolding, tools, electrical works, temporary installations, PPE usage, access arrangements, fire‑safety equipment, etc.
Identify unsafe conditions or unsafe work practices, issue corrective actions, stop unsafe jobs if necessary, and follow-up until hazards are mitigated.
Organize regular toolbox talks, safety briefings, and refresher safety trainings for all site personnel covering PPE usage, electrical safety, working at height, emergency procedures, safe work practices, and other relevant safety topics.
Foster a safety-first culture across the site — encourage reporting of hazards, near misses, and unsafe acts.
Maintain and manage incident/accident logs, safety observation records, near‑miss reports, and ensure timely communication of incidents to management and statutory authorities (if required).
Prepare periodic safety reports (daily / weekly / monthly) summarizing safety performance, inspection findings, incidents, compliance status, and recommended improvements.
Conduct regular safety audits, checks of safety equipment, PPE inventory, work permits (for hot works, lifting, electrical, working at height), scaffolding & access safety, and ensure compliance with safety standards.
Organize periodic emergency drills, mock‑drills, and safety drills to ensure readiness of all personnel.
Act as the primary safety contact for all site personnel, subcontractors, and stakeholders — guide on safety procedures, handle safety queries or concerns, and ensure compliance.
Liaise with regulatory authorities or inspectors (as applicable) for safety audits, inspections, statutory compliance, and certifications.
Prepare and submit regular safety reports to senior management / HSE Manager / Project Head — summarizing compliance status, hazards identified, corrective actions, safety metrics (incident rate, near‑miss rate, safety observations), and improvement recommendations.
Identify potential improvements in safety processes and procedures, recommend enhancements, and support adoption of best practices.
Monitor and review effectiveness of safety measures and corrective actions, and update safety plans/standards periodically based on lessons learned or evolving project scope / conditions.
Qualifications & Skills
Education: Diploma or Degree in Engineering / Safety / Occupational Health & Safety / Environmental Science (or equivalent). Additional safety certification (e.g. NEBOSH, OSHA, or equivalent) is preferred.
Technical Knowledge: Good understanding of construction and installation hazards — working at height, electrical safety, mechanical works, working with tools/equipment, lifting operations, civil work safety, emergency procedures, PPE standards.
