About Bp

bp Technical Solutions India (TSI) center in Pune, aims to build on bp’s existing engineering and technical strengths to deliver high quality services to its hydrocarbons and new energy businesses worldwide. TSI brings together diverse engineering capabilities to provide technical services across a range of areas including engineering, maintenance, optimization, data processes, projects and subsurface, to deliver safe, affordable and lower emission energy, while continuously innovating how we work.

Let Me Tell You About The Role.

BP Technical Solutions India (TSI) centre in Pune, aims to build on bp’s existing engineering and technical strengths to deliver high quality services to its hydrocarbons and new energy businesses worldwide. TSI brings together diverse engineering capability to provide technical services across a range of areas including engineering, maintenance, optimization, data processes, projects and subsurface, to deliver safe, affordable, and lower emission energy, while continuously innovating how we work. Global Subsurface Solutions (GSS) delivers high-quality, high impact, subsurface technical products to address prioritised business challenges across bp’s oil, gas, and low carbon businesses.

As specialist reservoir engineers, reservoir Fluids practitioners provide technical expertise globally in understanding the fluid properties, the associated risks, and mitigation strategies for our resilient hydrocarbon business and low carbon energy transition. They play a critical role in making sure fluids are properly described to make the business safer and our predictions more reliable.

Reservoir fluids support covers the entire project cycle by planning the fluid sampling and analysis for renewal to modelling the fluid phase behaviour for projects and operations. Over the past few years, the fluids specialists are also being called on more and more to advise on the fluid implications for CCS and Hydrogen projects.

What You Will Gain

In this role you will gain:

  • Vital skills in reservoir fluid characterization that are essential to both resilient hydrocarbon and low carbon energy transition.
  • Insights on how reservoir fluids are modelled through Subsurface and Surface in various software.
  • Experience of working in a highly experienced Reservoir Engineering team.
  • Global exposure to many O&G projects.
  • Deeper understanding of BP businesses from different perspectives.
  • Working relations with various fields such as geoscience, engineering, microbiology, production chemistry, etc…

What You Will Deliver

In this is role you will:

  • Plan the fluid sampling and surveillance programs.
  • Supervise the fluid analysis in the third-party laboratories and conduct quality check and estimate in-situ reservoir fluid properties from PVT data.
  • Develop equation of state models and table of properties for reservoir dynamic performance prediction, flow assurance, process simulation, and multiphase flow meter configuration.
  • Contribute to the understanding of reservoir connectivity/compartmentalization through PVT data analysis.
  • Simulate reservoir souring to support projects and operations (using SourSimRL software).
  • Participate in Integrated Fluids Reviews (IFR) for Major Projects (Hydrocarbons, CCS and potentially Hydrogen). Inform the fluid risk management by providing fluid analysis results.
  • Support development of fluids workflow and practices including fluids database, software applications, and internal tools.
  • All the above are delivered in collaboration with various participants from Subsurface, Production, Wells, Projects, Regional teams, and external vendors.

What You Will Need To Be Successful

Must have educational qualifications:

Bsc / Msc degree in Petroleum/ Reservoir Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related applied science engineering

Must Have Experiences/skills

  • Understanding of thermodynamics and hydrocarbon phase behavior.
  • Knowledge in numerical modeling of hydrocarbon reservoirs or subsurface stores.
  • Curiosity to learn new proficiencies, gain experience in new areas and apply these insights to assist handling bp’s fluids risks.
  • Ability to manage multiple requests and deadlines working in an agile manner within the fluids squad and wider Reservoir Performance and Base Management Unit.
  • Business sense and performance orientation to appreciate the business decisions that the fluids input will advise.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) to multiple layers in the organization, with track record of sharing findings.
  • Skillful communication and influencing skills, with track record of sharing findings.
  • Able to manage multiple activities and quickly respond to changing business priorities.
  • Able to cope with short-term deadlines and flexible prioritization acting as a squad member as required

Minimum Years Of Proven Experience

  • Min 5 years working as Reservoir Engineer, with extensive experience in thermodynamics and hydrocarbon phase behavior.

Good To Have Experiences/skills

  • Awareness level in geology and petrophysics
  • Reservoir simulation, uncertainty quantification and analysis, well and area performance management, depletion planning and reservoir management.
  • Waterflood management and/or gas reservoir management experience
  • Experience of using simulation models to support decisions.

You will work with

Your line manager will be the TSI Reservoir Engineering Team Leader.

You will work in Pune, India, but may be remotely deployed into an international, integrated subsurface delivery ‘squad’ where day-to-day activities/work will be prioritised by the squad leader. These GSS squads typically consist of 5-10 multi-disciplinary technical members in several locations and are deployed based on global subsurface business prioritisation.

You will also work in close collaboration with subsurface teams in the country your squad supports, as well as with bp’s global subsurface technical specialists and domain experts.
