Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled Relay Engineer with hands-on experience in protection relay configuration, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting for HV/MV substations and power transformers. The ideal candidate should possess strong knowledge of numerical protection relays, protection schemes, relay coordination, and substation automation. The role involves ensuring the reliable operation of electrical protection systems through testing, commissioning, fault analysis, and preventive maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

• Configure, test, commission, and troubleshoot numerical protection relays used in HV/MV substations and power transformers.

• Perform primary injection, secondary injection, relay calibration, and functional testing of protection systems.

• Configure and test protection schemes including Differential, Distance, Overcurrent, Earth Fault, Restricted Earth Fault (REF), Breaker Failure, Busbar Protection, and Transformer Protection.

• Analyze protection schemes and verify relay logic in accordance with project specifications.

• Coordinate relay settings with protection coordination studies and system requirements.

• Carry out relay logic verification, interlocking checks, trip circuit supervision, annunciation testing, and SCADA signal verification.

• Interpret Single Line Diagrams (SLD), Protection Schematics, Wiring Diagrams, and Relay Logic Drawings.

• Diagnose relay malfunctions, protection failures, nuisance tripping, and electrical faults.

• Prepare relay setting files, test reports, commissioning reports, and technical documentation.

• Coordinate with clients, consultants, OEMs, and project teams during testing and commissioning activities.

• Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, IS standards, and project quality requirements.

• Travel to project sites whenever required.

Required Skills

• Hands-on experience in protection relay testing, configuration, and commissioning.

• Strong knowledge of numerical protection relays from Siemens, ABB, Schneider Electric, GE, SEL, or equivalent OEMs.

• Experience in relay coordination and protection philosophy for substations and power transformers.

• Hands-on experience with Omicron Test Universe, CPC 100, Secondary Injection Kits, and Relay Testing Equipment.

• Knowledge of transformer protection, feeder protection, busbar protection, and generator protection.

• Ability to analyze relay event logs, disturbance records, and fault reports.

• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.

• Excellent communication and documentation abilities.

Qualifications

• Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical Engineering.

• 3–8 years of relevant experience in Protection Relay Engineering for HV/MV Substations and Power Transformers.

• • Experience with Transformer Manufacturers, Electrical EPC Companies, Power Transmission Utilities, or Substation Projects will be highly preferred.
