Principal Terraform Architect

About Position:

We are looking for a highly experienced Principal Terraform Architect to lead enterprise-scale Infrastructure as Code (IaC) strategy on AWS. This role is pivotal in defining Terraform governance, establishing reusable cloud patterns, and enabling large-scale cloud migration and modernization programs through automation and standardization.

What You'll Do:

• Define and govern enterprise-wide Terraform module library strategy
• Design scalable, reusable, and secure infrastructure patterns across AWS services
• Establish standards for naming conventions, tagging frameworks, and module development
• Ensure compatibility with Terraform v1.5+ and AWS Provider v5.x+
• Lead implementation of GitOps-driven Terraform delivery pipelines
• Define CI/CD standards including validation, linting, security scanning, and testing workflows
• Architect and manage Terraform state using S3 and DynamoDB
• Implement policy-as-code and governance controls for infrastructure provisioning
• Pattern Development & Governance
• Develop reusable patterns across:
• Compute (EC2, ECS, EKS, Lambda)
• Networking (VPC, Transit Gateway, Route53, Load Balancers, CloudFront)
• Storage (S3, EBS, EFS, FSx)
• Databases (RDS, DynamoDB, Aurora, ElastiCache)
• Security (IAM, KMS, Security Groups, WAF)
• Drive consistency, scalability, and compliance across cloud environments
• Conduct architecture and code reviews to ensure best practices
• Mentor platform engineers and Terraform practitioners
• Drive architecture decisions and maintain Architecture Decision Records (ADRs)
• Ensure alignment with HashiCorp and enterprise governance standards
• Migration Enablement
• Enable cloud migration teams with reusable Terraform modules and frameworks
• Provide hands-on support for troubleshooting, customization, and PR reviews
• Collaborate with cloud, security, and platform engineering teams
• Continuous Improvement
• Optimize modules and infrastructure patterns for:
• Performance
• Security
• Cost efficiency
• Operational scalability

Expertise You'll Bring:

• 15+ years of IT and cloud engineering experience
• 6+ years of enterprise-scale Terraform architecture experience
• Proven experience building and managing large Terraform module libraries
• Strong experience in AWS multi-account governance environments
• Technical Skills
• Terraform (HCL) and Terraform Cloud/Enterprise
• AWS services including EC2, VPC, IAM, EKS, Lambda, RDS, DynamoDB
• Deep understanding of AWS Control Tower and Account Factory for Terraform (AFT)
• Experience implementing scalable, reusable IaC patterns and frameworks
• Strong exposure to CI/CD, GitOps practices, and cloud automation
• Bachelors or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• AWS Solutions Architect – Professional
• HashiCorp Terraform Associate
