Job Description

Metric Bio are partnering with a fast-growing CDMO in Pennsylvania to hire a Principal - Crystallization.


Location: Pennsylvania (on-site)

Employment Type: Full-time


Role Overview:

Lead solid-state and crystallization R&D for small molecule drug substances and intermediates, supporting preclinical and early clinical programs. Develop and optimize crystallization processes to control crystal form, particle size, morphology, and other key solid-state properties.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead solid-form screening and selection (polymorphs, salts, co-crystals) to identify optimal solid forms.
  • Design and develop robust crystallization processes and particle engineering strategies, including wet milling, jet milling, and other size-reduction techniques.
  • Implement PAT-enabled tools and modelling to improve process understanding and efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with Process R&D, Analytical, QC, and cross-functional teams to support GMP and non-GMP programs.
  • Contribute to technology development, capability building, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor junior scientists and support team expansion.
  • Maintain accurate experimental records and ensure compliance with GLP/GMP standards.


Qualifications:

  • PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or Materials Science.
  • 5–10 years of experience in crystallization process development, solid-state chemistry, and/or pre-formulation studies.
  • Expertise in crystallization thermodynamics, kinetics, nucleation/growth, and solid-form characterization.
  • Hands-on experience with PXRD, DSC, TGA, PLM, DVS, PSD, HPLC, NMR, or related analytical techniques.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
