Role Title: Principal Business Analyst
Position Summary:
The Principal Business Analyst is responsible for the collection, evaluation, understanding, and communication of business requirements involved in the development of new or the modification and ongoing support of existing enterprise business applications. This person will provide guidance and direction to other business analysts on their own, as well as, other teams. Responsibilities may include the management of projects of large scope and complexity, which tend to be of high business visibility, as well as, corporate objectives. This person will also be recognized by business as a subject matter expert in various areas of the organization and be an influential partner in setting business direction and process. This is the highest level position in the Business Analysis job family.
Job Responsibilities:
- It is expected that this person performs all the duties of this position with the same level of quality of execution when assigned to any project in any functional area
- Demonstrates ability to influence decisions made by the business as related to given projects in the areas of functionality and process.
- Able to identify when a project is off course and provides direction to the team to change the project plan for successful delivery.
- Participates in system requirements definition, testing, training, implementation, and support of enterprise wide business applications.
- Solicits business requirements through interviews, workshops, and/or existing system documentation or procedures. Uses industry standard analysis techniques to uncover business requirements, such as data flow modeling, use-case analysis, and workflow analysis.
- Documents the results of analysis activities using the appropriate templates and tools and is a key contributor in the definition of what the appropriate templates and tools are.
- Provides mentoring and direction to other business analysts in areas of development methodology and business processes.
- Coordinates the efforts of other Business Analysts within assigned projects
- Makes recommendations and influences outcomes regarding necessary changes on deliverables expected from other groups.
- Initiates and leads work with other development groups to ensure an integrated business solution
- Represents enterprise business needs on project teams.
- Demonstrates a clear and exact understanding of FM Global’s business and business processes.
Skill and Experience:
- 5+ years of experience required to perform essential job functions.
- TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE | Expert knowledge of techniques and tools utilized in functional design, data analysis, and data flow diagramming. Knowledge of FM Global's current/planned technological environment and the appropriate technologies, tools, and techniques used to solve business problems.
- Excellent technical knowledge of capabilities and limitations of technological solutions. * TECHNICAL SKILLS | Extensive experience gathering requirements, functional design, and working with business processes. Highest level of deductive and logical skills. | Proven ability to work in technical environments that use tools involved in data flow diagramming, data analysis, issue tracking, and documentation and presentation.
- Proven ability to implement the correct solution related to the business need. Proven experience with managing projects of considerably large scope and complexity with projects teams of 20+ individuals.
- SOFT SKILLS | Proven ability to multi-task and establish priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral/written communication and organizational skills. Proven ability to provide direction to others and influence decisions made. Proven ability to negotiate with business and other IS groups in order to facilitate win/win scenarios.
Must Have Skills:
- IT Asset Management (ITAM) Expertise
- Deep hands-on experience across hardware and software asset management, including lifecycle, compliance, and governance.
- ITSM / IT Operations Knowledge (ITIL-aligned)
- Strong understanding of service management processes and how ITAM integrates with ITSM and operational workflows.
- IT Asset Management Platforms & Tools
- Preferred experience with Ivanti however if tools such as ServiceNow or Flexera providing they have experience with configuration, data quality, and reporting.
- Analytical & Process Improvement Skills
- Ability to analyze asset data, identify gaps or inefficiencies, and drive continuous improvement across ITAM processes.
- Stakeholder Communication & Documentation
- Proven ability to communicate clearly, document standards/processes, and partner effectively with Finance, Security, Compliance, and Technology teams.
Education and Certifications:
- Bachelor degree required. MBA preferred.
