- THE ROLE Unbilled or Unproposed Solutions & SME Client Experience Required The Pre-Sales IT Infrastructure Engineer at ICON Infoline is the technical engine behind every deal. Where the Sales team identifies the opportunity, this role wins it — by understanding customer pain points, designing the right solution, and presenting it with the clarity and confidence that earns purchase orders from enterprise and SME clients. ICON Infoline has strong expertise in IT supply and managed services.
- The Pre-Sales Engineer is the bridge between that expertise and the customer. They do not wait for a salesperson to hand them a brief — they sit in discovery meetings, ask the right questions, design end-to-end solutions, build BOMs and proposals, and support the sales team all the way to deal closure. This is a commercially aware technical role. The right candidate is equally comfortable reading an RFP, configuring a Cisco switch stack, and presenting a solution to a CIO.
- KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ROLES
- 1. Solution Design & Architecture • Conduct discovery sessions with customers to understand their IT infrastructure requirements, pain points, and future roadmap. • Design end-to-end IT infrastructure solutions covering servers, networking, storage, virtualization, security, cloud, and backup/DR. • Prepare solution architecture diagrams that clearly communicate the proposed design to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. • Recommend the right mix of products and technologies from ICON Infoline's vendor portfolio — Cisco, Fortinet, Dell, HPE, Lenovo, Microsoft. • Ensure every solution is sized correctly — no over-engineering, no under-specification. - 2. Pre-Sales Execution • Respond to RFPs, RFQs, and tenders — own the technical sections from requirement interpretation to final submission. • Prepare Bill of Materials (BOM) with accurate part numbers, specifications, and cost estimates. • Conduct technical presentations and live product demonstrations to prospective clients. • Work with vendors and distributors to obtain pricing, validate lead times, and confirm technical compatibility. • Maintain a library of standard solution templates, architecture blocks, and proposal decks to accelerate response turnaround.
- 3. Client Engagement & Relationship Support • Serve as the technical face of ICON Infoline in client meetings — explain complex infrastructure concepts to non-technical decision makers. • Build credibility and trust with IT managers, infrastructure heads, and procurement teams of enterprise and SME clients. • Support post-sales handover to the implementation team — ensure the delivered solution matches what was proposed and committed. • Participate in client review meetings and technical workshops where required.
- 4. Internal Collaboration • Work closely with the Sales team to qualify opportunities and provide technical input on deal strategy. • Collaborate with the Procurement and SCM teams to ensure accurate vendor quotes and product availability before proposals are submitted. • Provide technical feedback to management on recurring customer requirements, product gaps, and vendor performance. • Support the development of case studies and technical references from completed projects for use in future bids.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Essential • B.E./B.Sc. in Computer Science, IT, Electronics, or related engineering discipline. • 4–8 years of hands-on IT infrastructure experience covering servers, networking, storage, and security. • Minimum 2 years in a pre-sales or solution consulting role — direct experience preparing BOMs, proposals, and RFP responses. • Proficiency with at least two of the following vendor ecosystems: Cisco, Fortinet, Dell Technologies, HPE, Lenovo, Microsoft. • Proven ability to design and document end-to-end IT infrastructure solutions for enterprise and SME clients. • Strong written and verbal communication — able to present technical solutions confidently to CIOs, IT Heads, and procurement teams.
Technical Knowledge — Mandatory • Servers: Windows Server, Linux Server administration and sizing. • Networking: LAN/WAN, Switches, Routers, Wi-Fi controllers, VLANs, SD-WAN concepts. • Storage: NAS, SAN, backup storage sizing and selection. • Virtualization: VMware vSphere/ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V. • Cybersecurity: Firewall configuration (Fortinet/Cisco preferred), VPN, Endpoint Security solutions. • Cloud Platforms: Working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud — hybrid and cloud migration scoping. • Backup & Disaster Recovery: DR design, RPO/RTO planning, backup tools (Veeam, Veritas, Commvault).
Strongly Preferred
• Cisco CCNA or CCNP certification. • Fortinet NSE 4 or above certification. • Microsoft Azure or AWS Solutions Architect Associate certification. • VMware VCP (VMware Certified Professional). • Experience with ITSM tools (Service Now, Fresh service) or MSP platforms. • Exposure to Managed Services contracts — SLA design, scope of services, and pricing models.
