About Accel1
Accel1 is a technology-driven climate infrastructure company developing next-generation solutions for environmental sustainability, including biochar production, climate engineering systems, and smart environmental infrastructure.
As part of our climate technology initiatives, Accel1 is establishing a Biochar Manufacturing Facility in Karnal, Haryana, utilizing agricultural biomass to produce high-quality biochar for applications in agriculture, soil regeneration, carbon sequestration, and industrial use.
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Plant Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our biochar manufacturing facility.
This role will be responsible for ensuring efficient plant operations, consistent production output, equipment reliability, safety compliance, and operational excellence.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in industrial plant operations, biomass processing, thermal systems, or chemical/manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities
Plant Operations Management
- Oversee daily operations of the biochar production facility
- Manage pyrolysis units, biomass feed systems, and production processes
- Ensure optimal plant utilization and production efficiency
- Monitor plant performance and resolve operational issues
Production Planning
- Plan and manage daily and monthly production targets
- Ensure continuous supply of biomass feedstock to maintain plant throughput
- Optimize production processes to maximize biochar yield and quality
Team Leadership
- Lead and supervise plant technicians and operators
- Manage shift operations and workforce productivity
- Train plant staff on equipment operation, safety, and maintenance procedures
Equipment & Maintenance
- Ensure proper operation and maintenance of pyrolysis reactors and supporting equipment
- Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities
- Minimize downtime and ensure equipment reliability
Safety & Compliance
- Implement and maintain plant safety protocols
- Ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements
- Maintain safe working conditions across the facility
Quality Control
- Ensure consistent production of high-quality biochar
- Monitor process parameters including temperature, feed rates, and carbon yield
- Coordinate with quality teams for product testing and standards
Operational Reporting
- Track production output, efficiency metrics, and operational KPIs
- Provide regular reports to management on plant performance
- Identify opportunities for operational improvements and cost optimization
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
The Plant Operations Manager will be responsible for achieving the following operational benchmarks:
Biochar Yield Efficiency
- Achieve target carbon yield of 28–35% biochar output from biomass feedstock
Plant Utilization Rate
- Maintain 85–90% plant uptime through efficient operations and preventive maintenance
Carbon Removal Output & Production Traceability
- Maintain accurate production records to support carbon removal certification and carbon credit programs
Biomass Feedstock Efficiency
- Ensure consistent biomass supply and optimize feedstock utilization to maintain production efficiency
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- 8–15 years of experience in industrial plant operations
- Experience working in sectors such as:
- biomass processing
- thermal plants
- chemical manufacturing
- cement plants
- energy or waste-to-energy facilities
Key Skills
- Strong understanding of industrial plant operations
- Experience managing production teams and shift operations
- Knowledge of thermal processing or pyrolysis systems is highly desirable
- Excellent problem-solving and operational management skills
- Strong focus on safety, efficiency, and quality
