About The Role

HT India is establishing a new manufacturing and service centre focused on pumps, motors, and rotating equipment. This is a greenfield opportunity for a seasoned operations leader to build and run the facility from the ground up — from infrastructure commissioning and team recruitment through to achieving planned revenue targets.

The Plant Head will be the most senior operational leader on site, accountable for the end-to-end performance of the facility: manufacturing output, service and repair operations, testing capabilities, quality, safety, and financial performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facility Setup & Commissioning
  • Lead the commissioning of the new facility in coordination with the Lessor and project teams, ensuring timely readiness for operations.
  • Plan and oversee fitout, equipment installation, and testing infrastructure build-out within the approved Capex budget.
  • Establish all facility operating procedures, safety systems, and quality management frameworks from scratch.
  • Coordinate with statutory authorities for registrations, fire NOC, and all required licences and compliance clearances.

2. Manufacturing & Service Operations

  • Oversee day-to-day manufacturing, assembly, and service/repair operations for pumps, motors, and associated rotating equipment.
  • Build and manage a capable workshop with end-to-end capabilities: strip and inspect, repair, rewind, overhaul, and test.
  • Ensure on-time delivery, service quality, and customer satisfaction across all accounts.
  • Drive operational efficiency, waste reduction, and continuous improvement across the shop floor.
  • Testing Facility
  • Design, commission, and operate a testing facility for pumps and motors compliant with relevant Indian and international standards (e.g. IS, ISO, API, IEC, IBR).
  • Establish test protocols, calibration regimes, and documentation standards for all equipment under test.
  • Position the testing facility as a revenue-generating service for third-party clients over time.
  • Team Building & Leadership
  • Recruit, onboard, and develop the facility team.
  • Define roles, set performance expectations, and build a culture of accountability, safety, and technical excellence.
  • Mentor and develop second-line managers to build organisational depth.
  • Commercial & Financial Performance
  • Own the facility P&L; manage costs against the annual Open budget and track performance against the five-year financial plan.
  • Work closely with the sales team to support proposals, customer visits, and technical solutioning.
  • Drive revenue ramp-up to planned targets.
  • Report on KPIs including revenue, EBITDA, order book, throughput, quality, and safety to the Country Head and Group.
  • Procurement & Supply Chain
  • Establish vendor relationships for materials, spares, consumables, and sub-contracted services.
  • Oversee procurement of capital equipment and tooling in line with the approved Capex plan.
  • Build a reliable local and regional supply chain to support operational requirements.

Qualifications & Experience Essential

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from a recognised institution.
  • 15–20 years of progressive experience in operations / plant management within the pumps, motors, or rotating equipment industry.
  • Demonstrated experience setting up or significantly expanding a greenfield manufacturing or service facility.
  • Hands-on experience designing, commissioning, and operating a pump or motor testing facility.
  • Proven track record of building and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for industrial pumps and motors.
  • Familiarity with relevant standards: IS, ISO, API, IBR (as applicable).
  • Experience managing P&L, budgets, and reporting in a structured corporate environment.

Preferred

  • Prior experience working within a multinational engineering group or JV environment.
  • Exposure to ERP/MES systems and digital manufacturing tools.
  • Experience dealing with Oil & Gas, Power, Water, or Industrial OEM customers.
  • Post-graduate management qualification (MBA or equivalent) is an advantage.
