Job Description
The City of West Linn Parks & Recreation Department is seeking a dependable, creative, and enthusiastic leader to serve as our Nature Day Camp Director. This seasonal leadership role is ideal for someone passionate about youth development, environmental education, and creative expression.
This position oversees our Art & Nature Day Camp serving youth ages 7–11, blending environmental exploration, hands-on art experiences, and outdoor recreation into a safe, engaging, and enriching summer program.
The Art & Nature Day Camp Director is responsible for the overall supervision and daily operations of the camp program. This includes leading staff, supporting program planning, coordinating activities and field trips, and ensuring the safety and well-being of all campers and staff.
Schedule: Primarily Monday–Friday, approximately 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., with occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
Employment Period: May–August 2026
Veterans Preference: The City of West Linn provides qualifying veterans, disabled veterans, state service members, or former state service members” with preference in employment in accordance with state law. Any candidate wishing to have their qualifying veteran's preference applied to the process must submit a qualifying document (DD Form 214 or 215) at the time of application as well as the City's Veteran's Preference Form, providing proof of eligibility that includes discharge status.
Disabled veterans must also submit a copy of their Veteran's disability preference letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs at the time of application, unless the information is included in the DD Form 214 or 215.

An applicant for a position with a public employer claiming state servicemember, former state servicemember, veteran or disabled veteran percentage points may submit a summary of benefits letter from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs or any other official document, provided that the letter or other official document demonstrates that the applicant is a state servicemember, former state servicemember, veteran or disabled veteran, with the application for employment.

Employment Period: May–August 2026
- Provide leadership and oversight for the Art & Nature Day Camp program
- Supervise Youth Recreation Supervisors, Youth Recreation Leaders, and youth volunteers
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive camp environment
- Oversee daily camp operations and program flow
- Support development and implementation of engaging, age-appropriate programming
- Nature exploration and environmental education
- Outdoor recreation and group games
- Visual arts, crafts, and creative projects
- Team-building and cooperative activities
- Coordinate weekly guest presenters, artists, and nature educators
- Plan and coordinate off-site field trips, including transportation, supplies, and communication with families
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, staff, and participants
- Manage camper and staff behavior using positive behavior guidance techniques
- Assist with screening, training, and mentoring youth volunteers
- Order and manage program supplies and materials (art and outdoor equipment)
- Maintain accurate records and serve as timekeeper for camp staff
- Ensure program spaces are organized, clean, and maintained according to department standards
- Train and support staff in delivering high-quality art and nature-based programming
- Report directly to the assigned Recreation Coordinator
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Successful candidate must be 18 years of age.
- Valid Driver’s license and a good driving record
- Requires daily attendance.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification required (free training is provided before camp starts)
- Must pass a pre-employment screening process
- Ability to organize, direct and coordinate multiple tasks related to several programs at several site locations.
- Ability to deal with diverse populations.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain a good working relationship with other employees.
- Ability to understand and implement program policies.
- Ability to supervise 12-14 staff members.
- High school graduate or GED.
- Educational background in recreation, therapeutic recreation, education or related experience.
- Supervisory experience.
- Current certification in First Aid and C.P.R. preferred (free training will be offered
