Manuscript Editor

Role Description

We are looking for an experienced Freelance Manuscript Editor to assist in editing book manuscripts for publication. The ideal candidate should have prior experience editing manuscripts that have been published by prominent publishing houses such as Penguin, Routledge, Sage, HarperCollins, or similar academic/trade publishers.

Key Responsibilities

• Edit and refine book manuscripts for clarity, structure, and readability
• Ensure language consistency (UK/US English as required)
• Improve flow, tone, and academic rigor
• Assist with structural editing, copyediting, and proofreading
• Ensure manuscripts meet global publishing standards

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience editing multiple book manuscripts
• Prior work with well-known publishers or academic presses
• Strong command of English grammar, style, and editorial standards
• Familiarity with Chicago Manual / APA / academic referencing styles
• Ability to work independently as a freelancer

Qualifications

• Strong editorial skills, including proofreading, content editing, and copyediting
• Experience in content structuring, document formatting, and document quality control
• Proficiency in research and fact-checking methods
• Excellent written communication and grammar skills
• Proficiency in publishing tools and content management systems is a plus
• Ability to meet deadlines and work collaboratively with diverse teams
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field
• Previous experience in the education or publishing sector is highly desirable

Engagement

• Freelance / Contract basis

• Compensation based on manuscript scope
