Wage/Salary: $250,000 per annum

Overview

The Prince George’s County Council is requesting letters of interest from highly qualified individuals wishing to be considered for an appointment to serve as the Integrity and Compliance Officer for the Prince George’s County Public Schools System.

The Opportunity

The Integrity and Compliance Officer (ICO) plans, organizes, directs, and supervises the overall activities of the Office of Integrity and Compliance. The ICO will assist the Prince George’s County Council and the Prince George’s County Board of Education by providing independent evaluation and recommendations regarding opportunities to: preserve the local school system’s reputation; and improve the effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency of its programs, policies, practices, and operations.

The ICO will be responsible for preventing, investigating, and reporting instances of fraud, waste, and abuse of property or funds of the Prince George’s County Public Schools System.

The ICO will examine, evaluate, and report on the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls and their related accounting, financial, technology, and operational policies.

Additionally, the ICO is charged with reporting non-compliance as well as proposing ways to improve compliance with applicable law, policy, and ethical standards of conduct.

Minimum Qualifications

The Integrity and Compliance Officer must be qualified professionally to assess facts, identify potential legal/ethical/financial issues, apply legal analysis, and make determinations as to recommended actions.

Other qualifications include education (juris doctor, bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, public administration, or related field), plus experience in auditing, government operations, investigatory operations, financial management, or prosecutorial experience. (Candidates may substitute additional experience in the absence of a professional degree from an accredited college or university.)

Preferred Qualifications

Juris Doctor preferred.

Professional proficiency demonstrated by possessing relevant certifications such as the Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and/or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or an advanced degree in a relevant field, and at least seven (7) years of experience in the field of government auditing, investigational operations, evaluation, and analysis.

THIS IS AN APPOINTED POSITION. THE TERM OF THE INTEGRITY AND COMPLIANCE OFFICER IS 4 YEARS BEGINNING ON THE DATE OF APPOINTMENT. AN INDIVIDUAL MAY NOT SERVE AS INTEGRITY AND COMPLIANCE OFFICER FOR MORE THAN THREE TERMS. THE INTEGRITY AND COMPLIANCE OFFICER CONTINUES TO SERVE UNTIL A SUCCESSOR IS APPOINTED.
