Position Overview

eNGINE is seeking an experienced Application Support Engineer to support and enhance a mission-critical enterprise platform. This role leans heavily toward backend technologies and requires hands-on coding, troubleshooting, and database expertise.


The ideal candidate thrives in a production environment, enjoys digging into complex issues, and can partner across engineering and infrastructure teams to ensure system stability and performance. This individual will play a key role in diagnosing issues, improving system reliability, and contributing to ongoing platform enhancements.


Responsibilities

  • Investigate and resolve production incidents by analyzing logs, code, and database behavior across a Java-based application stack
  • Triage incoming support requests, prioritize effectively, and deliver timely resolutions in a ticket-driven environment
  • Perform deep-dive analysis into recurring issues and implement long-term fixes to reduce repeat incidents
  • Collaborate with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to deploy fixes and improve system resiliency
  • Evaluate application and database performance trends, identifying inefficiencies and recommending optimizations
  • Contribute code changes and enhancements within backend services built on Java and Spring Boot
  • Develop scripts or tooling to streamline repetitive operational tasks and improve team efficiency
  • Maintain and evolve internal documentation including runbooks, troubleshooting guides, and post-incident reports
  • Support system reliability by addressing scalability, latency, and availability concerns across the platform
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts to enhance operational processes and end-user experience
  • Leverage monitoring tools to proactively identify issues and partner with engineering teams on remediation strategies


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of experience supporting and engineering enterprise applications in a production environment
  • Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot, with the ability to read, debug, and modify code
  • Solid understanding of relational databases (Oracle or SQL Server), including query tuning and performance troubleshooting
  • Experience working within Agile environments and supporting DevOps-oriented workflows
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure and distributed system architectures
  • Exposure to frontend technologies like Angular is a plus, though the role is primarily backend-focused
  • Experience with event-driven or streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka) is preferred
  • Working knowledge of Linux/Unix environments and scripting fundamentals
  • Experience with application monitoring and logging tools such as Splunk, AppDynamics, or similar
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and configuration management tools (Docker, Ansible, etc.)
  • Ability to analyze system dependencies and understand how components interact across a technical ecosystem
  • Interest in leveraging AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to improve productivity and automation


Preferred Experience

  • Background in financial services, capital markets, or securities environments
  • Experience supporting high-availability, customer-facing applications
  • Familiarity with job scheduling systems and batch processing workflows
  • Proven ability to identify automation opportunities and implement scalable solutions
