Job Description
Key Responsibilities
SpEd@home has created a learning management system (LMS&), that has been curated specifically to meet the requirements of children ages 6-13, having differential needs viz those with learning disability, ADD/HD, and autism spectrum disorders. It has been designed to help children achieve foundational literacy and numeracy.
- SpEdPLAY Redesign (Core Mandate): Lead the redesign of existing SpEdPLAY games using the Octalysis Framework (8 Core Drives). Reimagine current games into structured game loops, clear progression systems, and strong layers of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Design core loops, meta loops, and long-term progression journeys, along with reward architectures such as badges, unlocks, streaks, and narratives. Transform games like Critter Crunch into multi-level cognitive journeys and sensory-rich, goal-oriented experiences. Build standardized game design frameworks and templates for scalability.
- Game Design & Systems Thinking: Design engaging mechanics, levels, and systems aligned with literacy and numeracy, cognitive skill development, and occupational therapy goals. Develop adaptive gameplay systems linked to SPEED LDS performance data. Create modular game systems that scale across skills and age groups.
- Therapeutic & Educational Alignment: Convert IEP goals, SpEdProbe assessments, and therapy plans into gameplay. Design targeted interventions for attention and executive functioning, working memory, motor coordination, and socio-emotional skills. Ensure every game has a clear linkage from outcome to measurable impact.
- Narrative & Experience Design: Build immersive story worlds, characters, and sensory-driven quests. Create progression narratives that sustain long-term engagement. Design experiences suitable for early learners (3–8 years) and older children (8–13 years).
- Neurodiverse UX Design: Design for children with ADHD, autism, and learning disabilities. Ensure minimal cognitive overload, clear visual and audio instructions, and predictable interaction patterns. Integrate multi-sensory feedback systems.
- Data-Driven Iteration: Collaborate with product and analytics teams to track engagement and learning outcomes, optimize game loops and difficulty curves, and improve retention and effectiveness.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with special educators and occupational therapists, product and UX teams, and developers. Contribute to the SpEdPLAY roadmap and innovation strategy.
