Engineering Lead - Electrical Distribution utility & lighting

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineering Lead with 15+ years of experience to lead the design, planning, and coordination of electrical distribution system and electrical design of services mainly in railways system including the mainline, metros, semi high speed and high speed projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and a deep understanding of electrical design standards, codes, and best practices. This role offers the opportunity to work on large-scale, high-profile projects for India and abroad with focus on transportation sector mainly Railways.

Key Responsibilities

• Electrical Design:
• Lead the design of electrical systems for various types of buildings and infrastructure projects.
• Ensure that designs meet client specifications, local building codes, NEC, Indian standards, RDSO standards, and international standards.
• Hands on experience in design of systems for power distribution as well as building services electrification.
• Providing guidance on design processes and technical challenges.
• Project Management:
• Collaborate with project managers and other design professionals to define project requirements and ensure that design milestones are met.
• Capable of preparing and reviewing of design drawings, calculations, and specifications.
• Coordinate the integration of design with other systems like MEP systems, architectural and structural disciplines.
• Technical Expertise:
• Experience in designing of MVLV (Power Distribution, E&B) MEP (Lighting, Fire Detection, Access, ELV) including Protection and Scada for buildings & installations for Mainline/Metro Transportation system installations. Equipment sizing for the electrical equipments like transformers, panels, DC system, Diesel Generators etc.
• Experienced in railway electrification standards & requirements, clearance requirements & studies, and load analysis. Exposed to various European codes & standards like CENELAC, EN, IEC, IEEE etc.
• Knowledge and good understanding of utility grids and Protection systems.
• Well experienced in interface management, especially dealing with critical techno-commercial & contractual issues.
• Experience of Possession requirement of infrastructure and its control, permit to work regime etc.
• Knowledge of Technical & Construction Drawings of MVLV/MEP, Calculations including stability, clearances etc.
• Skilled in developing Power Distribution, Lighting, conduiting and wiring Drawings, Equipment layouts, schematics Protection arrangements, etc.
• Experienced in estimating the electrical equipments like Auxiliary Transformers, distribution transformers, cables, UPS, Power Supply, DG, LV and MV panels.
• Good knowledge of earthing and lightning protection systems.
• Software Proficiency – AutoCAD, Excel, dialux, ETAP and other design tools.
• Material Estimation – BOQ preparation and cost estimation
• Knowledge of products of different manufacturers and of Technologies and latest state of the art features.
• Well experienced & familiar with Indian & European standards (RDSO, BIS, BS EN, ACTM, RITES, IEC, UIC, IEE) .
• knowledge of railway safety standards and regulations
• Select equipment, materials, and systems, and prepare technical specifications and procurement packages.
• Review vendor submittals and shop drawings for compliance with design documents.
• Preparing the bidding BOQs.
• Prepare and review technical reports, design calculations, and supporting documentation for regulatory approvals.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and lead initiatives to enhance design efficiency and quality.
• Client and Stakeholder Communication:
• Engage with clients to understand their needs and translate them into functional designs.
• Provide regular project updates to clients, addressing any concerns or changes in design scope.
• Assist with procurement and tendering processes, ensuring the best value for the client.
• Getting the designs approved from client / consultants.
  
  

Required Qualifications And Skills

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical.
• Experience: 15 years + of experience in Electrical distribution and services design, with at least 5 years in a senior or lead role.
• Project Management: Proven track record in managing engineering of complex projects from concept to completion, including budget and schedule management.
• Leadership: Ability to manage and mentor a team of engineers and designers.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to liaise with clients, contractors, and team members effectively.
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to provide innovative solutions to complex design challenges.
• Attention to Detail: A high level of precision and care in the preparation of design documents and technical specifications.
