Job Description
Key Accountability Areas
Key Activities
Data Strategy Planning & Execution
- Develop and maintain a Data Strategy that aligns with the SANS objectives and long-term goals
- Define the vision, goals, and roadmap for data management and governance initiatives
- Drive the execution of the Data Strategy by coordinating and prioritizing projects and initiatives ensuring timely execution and status reporting
- Promote a data-driven culture within SANS by planning change management and data-related training and awareness in the organization
- Receive, prioritize, and manage requests/demands from various departments or business units for data-related services.
- Support with the development and monitoring of the department’s business plan, strategic objectives, and KPIs.
- Manage and continuously monitor the Data Governance and Protection budget by tracking and reviewing the actual spending against plan
- Collaborate with Data Protection and Privacy section head in budget planning and tracking, compliance monitoring and data governance and protection improvement opportunities.
Data Governance & and Compliance
- Support the execution of data governance model and ensure collaboration between data owners, data stewards, and relevant stakeholders
- Establish and maintain Data Governance policies, standards, and procedures and ensure socialization and alignment with relevant stakeholder and data stewards
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, and data stewards to obtain input and reports relevant to data management and governance programs.
- Assure and monitor compliance with NDMO regulations, data related policies, privacy laws and other industry standards
- Monitor and report on the effectiveness of the data governance and compliance program and make recommendations for improvements as needed.
- Prepare and manage the data management and governance committees and track feedbacks and action items
People Management
- Actively participate in on-the-job training, mentoring, and coaching of subordinates
- Provide clear direction, prioritize tasks, assign, and delegate responsibility, and monitor the workflow
- Promote a high-performance working environment embracing SANS’s values
Policies, Processes and Procedures
- Support in monitoring day-to-day activities to ensure compliance with stipulated policies and procedures
- Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of systems and processes taking into account leading practices, changes in the business environment, cost reduction, and productivity improvement
Knowledge and Experience
- Minimum 6 years of experience in data management and governance roles, with a proven track record of team leading and strategy development is required.
Education and Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Data Management, Information Technology, Business Administration) is required.
