About The Role

SAIC is seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join its team supporting NAVWAR's Naval Operational Architecture (NOA) program in San Diego, CA. This pivotal role involves supporting a transformative, Navy-led network-centric initiative aimed at modernizing and automating the correlation of multiple Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) data streams. The successful candidate will contribute to reducing the sensor-to-shooter timeline, enhancing operational efficiency and decision-making capabilities. The position requires on-site presence in San Diego, with up to 15% travel involved. The Data Engineer will collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to design, develop, and deploy robust data pipelines and analytics solutions in a secure, mission-critical environment, supporting national defense objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related STEM field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in AI/ML within defense or intelligence environments.
  • Active Top Secret clearance required; TS SCI clearance preferred.
  • No dual citizenship required.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, G, Rust, Pandas, R, SQL, or related languages.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a data analyst, data scientist, data engineer, database administrator, or similar role.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Ability to work on-site full-time in San Diego, CA.
  • Capability to safely operate tools and equipment aboard Navy vessels, including navigating confined spaces and working in shipboard environments.
  • Ability to adhere to Navy safety protocols and wear PPE as required.
  • Proficiency in handling multiple data formats such as CSV, JSON, XML, Parquet, and ORC.
  • Experience with event streaming platforms like Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, or ZeroMQ.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct data pre-processing, exploratory data analysis, and develop data pipelines to ensure high-quality, performant data outputs.
  • Design, implement, and normalize data standards to facilitate interoperability and seamless integration across systems.
  • Develop and deploy scalable data pipelines and analytics solutions in operational environments, ensuring robustness and reliability.
  • Perform thorough testing and validation of data workflows, ensuring accuracy and consistency in analytics outputs.
  • Implement event streaming pipelines using platforms such as Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, or ZeroMQ to support real-time data processing.
  • Collaborate with analytics, engineering, and mission teams to facilitate effective data integration and ensure mission success.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize data pipelines to maintain operational performance and security standards.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and advancements in data engineering, distributed systems, and modern data architecture.
  • Document data processes, pipeline architectures, and best practices to support team knowledge sharing and compliance.
  • Support integration of data pipelines into mission-critical systems, including secure deployment and performance tuning.
