Non-Competitive Appointment to Data Analyst 1: Six years of experience in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools.
Non-Competitive Appointment to Data Analyst Trainee 2: Five years of experience in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools.
Non-Competitive Appointment to Data Analyst Trainee 1: Four years of experience in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools.
Substitution: An associate’s degree may substitute for two years of specialized experience; or a bachelor’s degree may substitute for four years of specialized experience; a master’s degree in data or computer science, informatics, economics, statistics, mathematics, or a related field, may substitute for five years of specialized experience; a J.D may substitute for six years of specialized experience.

Duties Description
- Perform data extraction and aggregation from various sources and tables.
- Compile, analyze, mine, parse and cleanse data related to agency processes, NYS, or national education, and/or higher education spending, trends, and outcomes.
- Assist with analyzing and monitoring grants and scholarships spending and trends.
- Review data for quality assurance.
- Identify trends in data and identify risks in programs based on these trends.
- Devise methods for identifying data patterns and trends in data sources; assess data structures and how they can be used to produce desired reports.
- Perform quantitative and/or qualitative data collection.
- Contribute to the development of dashboards, reports, and publications.
- Summarize results, interpret data, and communicate results.
- Compile other ad-hoc data analysis based on current needs and executive management priorities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Qualifying experience is preferred when performed in a school, school district, BOCES, education oversight agency, educational institution, education research institution, or other related research institution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong quantitative skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point. Some experience with SAS, SQL, R or Tableau is desired, but not necessary.
- Strong communication skills and ability to maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.
- Experience working with large datasets, confidential data, and relational databases.
- Experience preparing analytical reports, data visualizations via excel pivots or Tableau.
