Job Description – Costing Engineer (Business Development)

Background: Fabrication & Heavy Fabrication

Cost Estimation & Tendering
Prepare accurate cost estimates for fabrication and heavy fabrication projects based on drawings, BOQs, and client specifications.

Technical & Commercial Analysis
Analyze RFQs/RFPs from clients and develop detailed techno-commercial proposals aligned with project scope and market competitiveness.

Material & Process Costing
Calculate costs for raw materials (plates, pipes, structural steel), machining, welding, surface treatment, painting, and other fabrication processes.

Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination
Obtain quotations from suppliers and subcontractors, evaluate pricing, and optimize costs without compromising quality or delivery.

Cross-Functional Coordination
Work closely with engineering, planning, production, procurement, and QA/QC teams to validate assumptions and costing inputs.

Value Engineering & Cost Optimization
Propose alternative materials, fabrication methods, and design optimizations to improve margins and project feasibility.

Market & Benchmark Analysis
Study market trends, competitor pricing, and industry benchmarks to support winning bids and BD strategies.

Client Interaction & Clarifications
Support BD team in client meetings, technical discussions, cost justifications, and pre-bid/post-bid clarifications.

Risk & Margin Assessment
Identify cost risks related to fabrication complexity, lead times, logistics, and execution challenges; ensure healthy project margins.

Documentation & Reporting
Maintain detailed costing sheets, bid summaries, assumptions, and management reports for approvals and audits.
