Civil Manager- Construction

Project: Large-Scale Precast Commercial Building

Location: IITMRP Chennai, Taramani.

Report to: Chief Project Manager

About the Role: We are seeking a highly experienced Construction Manager for a major precast concrete commercial building project. The role entails overall site leadership, monitoring contractor performance, ensuring quality compliance, and achieving timely project delivery within the approved budget and specifications.

Given the stringent schedule requirements, working on weekends and extended hours may be necessary during critical phases of construction.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Oversight & Execution

• Act as the Client’s on-site representative for all construction activities
• Oversee execution of precast structural works including manufacturing coordination, logistics, erection, alignment, and structural connections
• Ensure strict adherence to approved drawings, specifications, and contractual requirements
• Monitor contractor performance against approved baseline schedule

2. Precast Systems Management

• Review and coordinate precast shop drawings and erection methodologies
• Ensure dimensional accuracy, structural integrity, and quality of precast components
• Monitor lifting plans, temporary supports, and erection safety compliance
• Coordinate closely with precast yard/factory and site erection teams

3. Multi-Disciplinary Coordination

• Ensure effective coordination of Civil, Structural, MEP, Façade, Geotechnical, and Finishing works
• Monitor embedded items, service sleeves, and interface management within precast elements
• Identify and mitigate design and execution conflicts proactively

4. Schedule & Commercial Control

• Track milestones and enforce recovery strategies when required
• Review contractor progress claims, variations, and cost implications
• Support the Chief Project Manager in budget and cash flow monitoring

5. Quality, Safety & Compliance

• Enforce QA/QC systems and inspection protocols
• Ensure compliance with statutory approvals and safety regulations
• Conduct regular site audits and progress reviews

6. Reporting & Leadership

• Conduct coordination meetings with consultants and contractors
• Prepare detailed weekly and monthly reports for senior management
• Escalate risks, delays, and technical challenges promptly

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil engineering
• 12–18 years of experience in large-scale commercial construction
• Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in precast concrete building projects
• Strong understanding of precast production, transport, and erection sequencing
• Prior experience in a client-side role preferred
• Proficiency in Primavera / MS Project and reporting systems
