AVP, Software Engineer (Individual Contributor)

Banking & Lending Technology – LPL Financial

Are you a senior technologist who thrives on solving complex problems and shaping platforms that matter? Do you enjoy leading through influence, challenging assumptions, and applying modern technologies—including AI—to materially improve how work gets done? If you want to play a pivotal role in transforming how technology enables advisors and their clients, LPL Financial is the place for you.

We are seeking an AVP, Software Engineer (Individual Contributor) to join our Banking & Lending Technology organization. This role is responsible for designing, building, and evolving secure, scalable, and resilient digital platforms, while also driving AI‑enabled solutions that reduce manual effort and improve operational efficiency across business, operations, and technology teams.

You will partner closely with Product, Architecture, Platform, Security, Operations, and Business stakeholders to shape technical strategy, influence platform roadmaps, and lead innovation through hands‑on execution.

About The Role

This is a senior, hands‑on technical leadership role. As an AVP IC, you will own complex systems and capabilities end‑to‑end—from architecture and design through implementation, deployment, observability, and production support. You will be expected to set technical direction, raise engineering standards, and mentor engineers, while remaining deeply involved in delivery.

A key expectation of this role is an AI‑forward mindset—identifying opportunities where AI, automation, and intelligent workflows can eliminate manual processes, reduce operational risk, and accelerate delivery, while meeting LPL’s security, compliance, and governance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical leader and problem solver for mission‑critical banking and lending platforms.
  • Design, develop, test, and deliver full‑stack solutions using .NET/C#, Angular, and AWS.
  • Define and evolve cloud‑native, microservices‑based architectures with a focus on scalability, resiliency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Identify, design, and implement AI‑based solutions that reduce or remove manual tasks across:
    • Business workflows (e.g., instruction setup, validation, decision support)
    • Operations and back‑office processes (e.g., exception handling, approvals, investigations)
    • Technology and engineering workflows (e.g., testing, triage, documentation, support)
  • Lead architecture reviews, design discussions, and complex technical decision‑making across teams.
  • Provide hands‑on guidance through code reviews, design reviews, and technical mentoring.
  • Partner with Product and Business leaders to translate strategic objectives into scalable, automated, and AI‑enabled technical solutions.
  • Proactively identify technical debt, systemic inefficiencies, and operational risks; drive remediation and modernization.
  • Ensure production readiness through strong observability, resiliency, automation, and operational excellence practices.
  • Communicate complex technical and AI concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
What You Will Do (Key Capabilities)

Service‑Oriented & Distributed Systems

  • Architect and implement REST and gRPC APIs using ASP.NET Core, clean architecture, and domain‑driven design.
  • Establish and enforce resiliency, security, and reliability patterns (retry, circuit breaker, idempotency, least privilege).
  • Design services that support automation, decisioning, and intelligent workflows.

Modern Web & Platform Development

  • Build and guide development of responsive, accessible Angular (v16+) applications and MFEs using RxJS and modern UI patterns.
  • Design front‑end experiences that surface AI‑driven insights, recommendations, and automation to users.
  • Define best practices for frontend–backend integration, typed clients, and API contracts.

AI‑Driven & Intelligent Automation

  • Demonstrate an AI‑first mindset by proactively identifying opportunities to:
    • Automate manual reviews, validations, and data enrichment
    • Reduce operational toil and exception handling
    • Improve decision accuracy and cycle times
  • Design and implement AI‑enabled solutions using:
    • LLM‑assisted workflows, classification, summarization, and extraction
    • Rule‑based + AI hybrid approaches where appropriate
  • Establish guardrails to ensure AI solutions meet security, compliance, explainability, and auditability requirements.
  • Measure and communicate the business and operational impact of AI solutions (time saved, risk reduced, throughput increased).
AI‑Accelerated Engineering

  • Lead adoption of AI‑assisted developer tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, CodeWhisperer) across teams.
  • Set standards for responsible use of AI in:
    • Code generation and refactoring
    • Test creation and coverage improvement
    • Documentation and knowledge sharing
  • Drive measurable improvements in developer productivity, quality, and delivery speed.
Full SDLC & Operational Ownership

  • Set expectations for unit, integration, and E2E testing (xUnit/NUnit, Testcontainers, Playwright/Cypress).
  • Influence and improve CI/CD pipelines with automated quality, security, and compliance checks.
  • Ensure services are instrumented with logging, metrics, tracing, and dashboards.
  • Act as an escalation point for complex production issues and lead post‑incident learning and automation.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of hands‑on full‑stack software engineering experience.
  • 10+ years designing and building complex, distributed systems at scale.
  • Strong expertise in .NET/C#, Angular, JavaScript/TypeScript, and SQL & NoSQL data stores.
  • Extensive experience with AWS, including EKS, RDS/Aurora, S3, Athena, Glue, EventBridge, and related services.
  • Demonstrated experience driving automation or AI‑enabled solutions that reduce manual effort.
  • Proven ability to provide technical leadership without direct people management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing AI‑enabled workflows or intelligent automation in regulated environments.
  • Strong background in financial services, wealth management, or other regulated industries.
  • Python experience (e.g., PySpark, NumPy) for data processing or AI pipelines.
  • Experience with feature‑flagging, canary deployments, and progressive delivery.
  • Familiarity with model governance, monitoring, and responsible AI practices.

Core Competencies

  • Strong executive‑level verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to influence technical and AI strategy across teams and domains.
  • Systems thinking with a focus on eliminating inefficiency and manual work.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous, high‑impact environments.
  • Passion for engineering excellence, intelligent automation, and continuous learning.
