Position Overview
The Assistant Manager(Communications) is a hands-on content and coordination role responsible for owning the end-to-end communication strategy for 3–4 assigned programs.
This role exists to bridge the gap between field implementation and external audiences. It requires translating complex program data, outcomes, and on-ground realities into clear, compelling, and human-centered narratives across print, digital, and media platforms.
The ideal candidate is not a passive coordinator or a pure strategist—but an active owner who writes, briefs creatives, manages stakeholders, and delivers communication assets with speed, accuracy, and brand consistency.

Key Responsibilities
- Program Ownership & Planning
- Serve as the single-point owner for communications of 3–4 concurrent programs/projects
- Develop annual and quarterly communication plans aligned with program goals and timelines
- Deeply understand program objectives, outcomes, stakeholder maps, and field realities
- Proactively identify communication opportunities and risks within assigned programs
- Content Development & Storytelling
- Create and edit a wide range of high-impact content including:
- Social media captions and campaigns
- Case studies and success stories
- Website articles and program reports
- Event communication, speeches, and announcements
- Translate quantitative data and complex outcomes into accessible, emotion-driven narratives
- Ensure all content reflects the voice of communities and field staff, not just donors
- Creative Coordination
- Act as the bridge between program teams and the creative unit (graphic designers, video producers)
- Brief creatives with absolute clarity on:
- Objective of the asset
- Target audience
- Core message
- Format and deliverables
- Deadlines and review cycles
- Review drafts, provide structured feedback, and iterate to ensure accuracy and brand alignment
- Stakeholder & Media Coordination
- Collaborate with internal program teams, leadership, and external partners to source information and approvals
- Support the execution of launches, campaigns, and high-visibility events
- Manage press, electronic, and digital media relations as required for assigned programs
- Ensure timely delivery of all communication assets by managing dependencies and workflows
- Brand & Quality Assurance
- Ensure all outputs adhere to brand tone, visual identity, and messaging frameworks
- Maintain consistency in voice, quality, and accuracy across all platforms and formats
- Act as a quality gatekeeper for all program-level external communication

Experience and Skills required :
- Master’s degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, Development Studies, or a related field
- Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with a strong portfolio of communications work may be considered
- 5–7 years of relevant, full-time work experience in:
- Corporate communications, content creation, journalism, or
- Development sector communications / nonprofit storytelling
- Proven experience owning communications for at least one large-scale program or project end-to-end
- Demonstrated portfolio of published writing (case studies, reports, articles, social campaigns)
- Experience working directly with designers and video producers is mandatory
- Prior exposure to the development / social sector is preferred
- Superior writing and editing skills in English (structure, grammar, tone, clarity)
- Storytelling instinct – ability to spot a narrative inside a dataset or field report
- Creative briefing ability – can articulate a visual concept to designers and filmmakers
- Project management – ability to manage multiple programs, deadlines, and stakeholders simultaneously
- Digital fluency – working knowledge of social media platforms and website content management
- English – Mandatory (professional proficiency)
- Hindi or Marathi – Strong advantage (enables direct field engagement and authentic storytelling)
