Reporting To: General Manager / Plant Head

Role Overview
The Assistant General Manager - Manufacturing will drive operational excellence at the plant level. The role combines production leadership, quality assurance, cost control, and people management to meet targets for safety, quality, delivery and cost (SQDC).
- Lead day-to-day production operations to meet volume, quality and schedule targets.
- Improve yield, throughput and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) through process optimisation.
- Own cost, quality and safety metrics; implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Coach and develop plant leadership and operations teams (supervisors, engineers, operators).
Production & Operations
- Manage end-to-end manufacturing operations for laminates / panels to achieve production plans and on-time delivery.
- Drive OEE improvements, reduce bottlenecks, and increase throughput.
- Implement lean manufacturing, standard work, and best practices to increase capacity and reduce waste.
- Ensure accurate production planning, line balancing and capacity utilisation.
- Reduce rejections, scrap and rework through robust quality controls and root cause analysis (RCA).
- Coordinate with QA/QC to implement corrective actions and maintain quality certifications.
- Monitor customer complaints and ensure timely resolution and preventive measures.
- Track and control manufacturing costs (raw materials, energy, labour, consumables).
- Lead cost-reduction initiatives (material yield, energy efficiency, manpower productivity) without compromising safety or quality.
- Prepare budgets, perform variance analysis and monitor productivity KPIs.
- Lead and develop a workforce of 75+ (direct & indirect), building accountability and performance-driven culture.
- Drive manpower planning, training programs, performance reviews and succession planning.
- Foster cross-functional collaboration with maintenance, QA, supply chain and procurement.
- Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, environmental norms and site safety standards.
- Promote proactive safety behaviours and incident prevention across the plant.
- Apply TPM, Lean, Six Sigma (or similar) methodologies to drive process improvements.
- Champion digitalisation, automation and standardisation projects to improve control and visibility.
Experience
- 12-18 years in manufacturing operations, preferably in Laminates / MDF / Particle Board / Panel / Modular Furniture industries.
- Proven track record of managing large shop-floor teams (75+), improving yield, productivity, quality and cost metrics.
- Hands-on experience with OEE improvement, RCA, TPM/Lean projects and plant-level P&L awareness.
- B.E. in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent).
