Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Tool Maker role based at Press Form Industries’ facilities in Chennai. The Tool Maker will interpret engineering drawings and specifications to design, fabricate, and repair tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures used in production. Daily responsibilities include setting up and operating conventional and CNC machines, performing precise measurements and adjustments, and ensuring tools meet dimensional and quality standards. The role involves troubleshooting tooling issues on the shop floor, performing preventative maintenance on tools, and collaborating with production and engineering teams to improve tool performance and efficiency. The Tool Maker is expected to follow all safety procedures, maintain accurate documentation of work completed, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in the tooling department.
Qualifications

  • Strong skills in tool and die making, including fabrication, fitting, and assembly of tools, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Proficiency in operating conventional machine tools (lathe, milling, grinding) and familiarity with CNC machining processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and dimensional tolerances.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers, height gauges, and dial indicators.
  • Knowledge of materials used in tooling (steels, alloys, heat treatment) and their application in manufacturing.
  • Understanding of shop safety practices, quality standards, and basic production planning in a manufacturing environment.
  • Relevant technical qualification, such as ITI, Diploma, or equivalent in Tool & Die Making, Mechanical, or a related discipline.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Prior experience as a Tool Maker or in a similar precision machining role in an industrial setting is preferred.
