Thermal Transient Engineer
Actively Reviewing the ApplicationsInfosys
Job Description
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced HRSG/Boiler Stress Engineer to perform advanced mechanical, thermal, and structural analysis for Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs) and boiler pressure part components. This role focuses on ensuring safe, reliable, and optimized performance under complex thermal cycles, transient loading, and high‑pressure operating conditions. Ideal for engineers with strong FEA, ASME code knowledge, and power‑plant/HRSG domain expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Structural & Thermal Stress Analysis
- Perform detailed stress analysis (static, thermal, transient, fatigue, creep, buckling) for HRSG/boiler pressure parts.
- Run thermal transient simulations for startup/shutdown cycles, load swings, and temperature gradients.
- Evaluate mechanical integrity of tube bundles, headers, drums, casing, ductwork, piping connections, and welded joints.
- Assess high‑temperature material behavior including thermal fatigue, creep, and oxidation.
Design Review & Code Compliance
- Ensure compliance with ASME Section I, Section VIII, B31.1, EN12952/EN12953, and other applicable global standards.
- Review vendor calculations and verify alignment with engineering best practices.
- Provide actionable design recommendations and optimization insights to engineering teams.
Data Interpretation & Technical Support
- Interpret heat balance diagrams, operational data, PT cycles, and transient conditions to define realistic load cases.
- Convert operating profiles into accurate boundary conditions for FEA models.
- Support root-cause investigations for cracking, thermal distortion, and tube/pipe failures.
Simulation & Modeling
- Build, refine, and validate FEA models using ANSYS, HyperMesh, Abaqus, or equivalent tools.
- Identify stress hotspots through detailed post-processing and propose corrective design solutions.
Collaboration & Reviews
- Work closely with process, design, manufacturing, and field engineering teams to define engineering requirements.
- Participate in design reviews and engineering audits, offering specialized stress‑related insights.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare high‑quality stress analysis reports, calculation files, engineering notes, and technical documentation.
- Present analysis outcomes to internal teams and customers when required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or related fields.
- Strong understanding of solid mechanics, pressure part design, thermal‑mechanical interaction, and high‑temperature material behavior.
- Hands‑on experience with FEA tools (ANSYS/Abaqus/HyperMesh).
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, boiler assemblies, and fabrication details.
- Understanding of HRSG/boiler operation, startup behavior, cycling impacts, and transient thermal effects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with turbomachinery, power plant systems, HRSG OEMs, boiler manufacturers, or EPC projects.
- Knowledge of creep‑fatigue interaction, weld assessments, and remaining life evaluations.
- Exposure to NDE methods, inspection data analysis, and field troubleshooting activities.
