Tech Lead - AI & Automation

We at Manipal Digital (business unit of Manipal Technologies Limited) are looking for a hands-on Tech Lead – AI & Automation to drive the development and deployment of automation and AI-enabled solutions that improve operational productivity, streamline production workflows, and enable new hybrid human + technology delivery models. The role will lead a small engineering team within the Tech Innovation Lab, working closely with operations, business teams, and clients to build practical, scalable solutions.  

Work Location : Manipal (Preferred)/ Bangalore

Key Responsibilities : 

• AI & Automation Development Design and build AI-driven tools and workflow automation solutions to reduce manual effort, increase throughput, and improve production efficiency. 
• Workflow Engineering & Integration Architect and implement automation pipelines by integrating internal systems, APIs, and third-party AI platforms into production workflows. 
• Technology Evaluation & Implementation Identify, evaluate, and implement AI/automation platforms, frameworks, and partner tools to accelerate innovation and productivity improvements.
• Technical Leadership - Lead and mentor a team of engineers within the Tech Innovation Lab, ensuring high-quality code, scalable architectures, and effective execution of automation initiatives.
• Business & Operations Collaboration - Work closely with operations and business stakeholders to translate process bottlenecks into automation opportunities and deliver measurable efficiency gains.

Requirements :  

• Experience : Up to 5 years in software development, automation engineering, or applied AI roles with strong hands-on coding experience. 
• Programming : Strong proficiency in Python (preferred) or Node.js for automation and AI integrations. 
• AI & GenAI : Hands-on experience with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini or similar), prompt engineering, and AI workflow orchestration. 
• Automation & Integration : Experience building API-driven workflows, micro-services, and automation pipelines; familiarity with RPA or workflow tools is a plus. 
• Cloud & Infrastructure : Working knowledge of AWS / GCP / Azure, containerisation, and scalable deployment practices. 
• Data & Processing : Experience handling structured/unstructured data, image or media processing pipelines, or large-scale production workflows is an advantage. 
• Collaboration : Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and business teams to deliver practical solutions.
