Job Description
General Purpose

This position is responsible for technology services in support of the day-to-day operations of Burlington Electric Department. Responsibilities include delivering, maintaining, and supporting reliable and secure end-user systems and applications. The position is also responsible for BED’s Office 365 tenancy, as well as standard line-of-business applications and servers.

Pay Grade 5: $22.87 - $37.50 Hourly
Remote Tier 2: Up to one (1) day remote/week

Essential Job Functions
- Support a Microsoft Office 365 environment, including installing, configuring, and supporting MS Office applications, Exchange, Entra ID, Intune, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
- Support line of business applications including installing, configuring, and supporting a variety of standard applications and office productivity tools.
- Support file and print services, including installing, configuring, and supporting access to shared drives and printers.
- Support end-user connectivity to wired/wireless networks, VPNs, and other remote connectivity tools.
- Support Microsoft Active Directory (AD) based authority and access by provisioning new user accounts, troubleshooting password resets and account lockouts.
- Support end-user enrollment and usage of multi-factor authentication.
- Support end-user enrollment and usage of password manager.
- Maintain an up-to-date database of all technology assets to be used for inventory control, budget planning, cybersecurity, and compliance.
- Ensure the performance, availability, and integrity of all systems and networks in accordance with established policies, standards, and procedures.
- Triage reported phishing messages, URLs, and attachments in conjunction with internal cybersecurity standards and protocols.
- Advance corporate-wide cybersecurity efforts and ensure the security of all technology systems in accordance with established policies, standards, and procedures.
- Work with employees in various departments to facilitate the effective use of information technology, provide timely resolutions for tickets sent through the helpdesk, document new information technology needs, compile budgetary proposals, support purchasing and implementation.
- Build knowledge of business processes and workflows to support optimal use of business technology.
- Work with hardware and software vendors to document product roadmaps and ensure alignment with long range business priorities.
- Coordinate and install updates, patches, new releases and/or perform any preventive maintenance necessary to ensure the reliable and secure operation of hardware and software in area of responsibility.
- Create and maintain backup and disaster recovery procedures in area of responsibility.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge and comply with internal policies and procedures, applicable regulatory standards, and industry best practices.
- Create and maintain complete documentation including, where applicable, end user documentation, systems and network diagrams, operational and process flow diagrams, troubleshooting and maintenance reports.
- Collaborate as a member of the IS team sharing information, mentoring, cross-training, on-boarding new staff and providing coverage as needed.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.
- High School diploma or equivalent and 9 credit hours in information technology, or equivalent formal training.
- Ability to configure and support Windows desktop environments.
- Ability to configure and support mobile devices, including iPhones and iPads.
- Ability to support Microsoft Office 365 environments.
- Ability to support telephony in a VoIP environment.
- Ability to support and consult with end users.
- Ability to support user access in a Microsoft Active Directory Domain.
- Working knowledge of scripting, e.g., PowerShell.
- Must possess excellent oral, written and analytical skills.
- Ability to provide technical presentations and training as needed.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, customers, and other personnel.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Ability to multi-task, working under minimal supervision, and adapt quickly to changing priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to travel to and from various sites within the City of Burlington.
- Ability to work overtime as needed consistent with provisions of the BED/IBEW Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Regular attendance is necessary and is essential to meeting the expectations of the job functions.
- Ability to understand and comply with City standards, safety rules and personnel policies.
